early signs of alcoholism Early Signs Of Alcoholism
Early signs of alcoholism??

I have a family member that’s starting to drink….so far they drink about 3-4 beers a day, her doctor told her it would be good for her kidneys…but she is seeming to look forward to those beers everyday….I need a serious answer to this, please….does anyone know anything that would throw a “red flag” about becoming an alcoholic….it does run in the family, also…Thank you

the doctor DID NOT tell her that 3-4 beers a day would be good for her kidneys unless she about 600 lbs. She’s already starting the deception it sounds like. 1 or maybe 2 beers a day for an average to large woman would be helpful. But as far as the red flags its so hard to describe this without listing a wide variety of factors. As a drunk myself I’d suggest contacting a local Al-Anon member and skaing them for some help(Al-Anon is not Alcoholics Anonymous, btw. It is a seperate organization that is meant to help those affected by drunks)

alcohol addiction treatment 3 Alcohol Addiction Treatment
Are there any low-cost alcohol addiction treatment programs in Damariscotta, Maine?

We’re really plumb out of money, but I also need to get my husband treated for his alcoholism. I fear that if I don’t put him inside an alcohol rehab soon, he’ll get worse. He’s gotten more violent lately, and I just don’t want this to continue on. Help please.

It’s really sad when someone gets alcoholism. You’re right, there’s a possibility that it will get worse. You can inquire about getting grants. One of the links below have information regarding this. Below is also a list of addiction treatment centers in your area. You can contact them and ask them whether they will be willing to give you a discount or allow you to pay off the bills at a later date. I feel for you and I’ll keep your family in my prayers.

Alcohol Addiction Recovery

alcohol addiction recovery Alcohol Addiction Recovery
Working with people with Mental Health Problems who are in recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is my new job?

I’ve been asked to come up with ideas for group sessions such as -
Fitness (I’m a qualified Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer)

Music (I’m an avid musician)

Art Night

I need ideas what to with them and get them involved.
All are on medication so it’s hard to motivate alot of the time but they do have to participate to be able to stay at the hostel.
At the moment there is a pond project. a recent barbecue build has just been finished. They have darts night and a cooking night.
I need as many ideas a s possible.
Alot of them can’t leave the hostel by themselves or leave at all.

This is a new career and job for me and I myself have been through depression and addiction. I really really want to help. I became a Gym Instructor as it helps with my depression and that why I am doing this.
any ideas appreciated.

As they will be doing it ask them what they want to do and pick the most popular one.

Or you could pick a few subjects like those listed and ask them to vote and then built it around what they want. After all if someone is not interested in a subject it hard to muster motivation where as if the person want’s something they will get involved.

As it’s a hostel what is the decor like? Is it in need of a revamp? If so what about somethink like decorating a communal room which will not only get them involved but benefit everyone that stays there.

Help For Alcoholics

Friday, April 9th, 2010

help for alcoholics Help For Alcoholics
How can I get my mom to go to alcoholics anonymous meetings?

She has an obvious drinking problem and my family and friends can see it but she can’t. She doesn’t think she drinks too much at all so she refuses to go. Her drinking has affected everyone in the family and it needs to stop. But everytime I bring up her drinking problem, she, not only denys it, but gets mad and just yells at me for it. Is there a way I can bring AA to her? Please help.

Your question suggests that you misunderstand the nature of addiction and the effectiveness of AA.

First of all, the decision to quit drinking is an individual one. You cannot make that decision for someone else, and the program of AA has absolutely nothing in it to assist anyone in making a decision to quit. If you are on the fence, they recommend that you go out and drink some more to prove to yourself that you have a problem.

This may be why the success rate of AA is the same as for people who quit on their own–because it’s the decision to quit, not going to AA, that makes the difference.

Now, there is another group, called SMART Recovery, which does have a component in it to help people make the decision to quit. Even there, though, this component is only helpful if someone at least has an inkling that they might have a drinking problem. It’s not useful for people who absolutely deny they have a problem.

Addiction, Recovery, and Codependency in the Family

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Doctor Checking on Male Drug Detox PatientIt almost defies logic but dysfunctional relationship patterns like codependency frequently continue after the drug or alcohol addicted individual becomes sober or “clean.”  It would appear to make sense that sobriety and the recovery from addiction in the household would result in a less chaotic, more functional living situation.  When looked at a little deeper, to the contrary, the codependents may be more sad and depressed than ever because the earlier balance, regardless of how dysfunctional or damaging the addictive or alcoholic behavior was, has been upset.

Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Doctor Comforting Mother of Teenager Who Died From a Drug OverdoseMany, if not most drug and alcohol addicts would probably prefer to stop abusing drugs and drinking, but following through on this is quite difficult at best and almost impossible at worst without professional treatment.

The alcoholism and substance abuse research literature demonstrates the fact that some people are able to stop abusing drugs and quit drinking entirely on their own without professional rehab.  For most people who involve themselves in alcoholism or drug addiction, however, they need professional addiction rehab if there is any hope for long-term addiction recovery and sobriety.

Alcohol is a Drug

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Doctor Injecting Meds in the Arm of a Drug AbuserIt is clear that vast numbers of people do not realize that alcohol is a drug and that alcohol dependency is a form of drug addiction.  The upshot of this is that just about all of the important information about drug addiction applies in some way to alcohol addiction.  As an illustration, this means that like other addicts, alcoholics experience a need to take increasing amounts of the drug (alcohol) in order to feel the “high” or the “buzz” they seek, they experience withdrawal symptoms when they suddenly stop taking the drug, they crave their drug of their choice, and they manifest out-of-control behavior.

In short, similar to the vast majority of addicts, alcohol dependent individuals need professional treatment if they are to stop their addiction, get sober, and begin their journey on the path to recovery.
