Alcohol Breath Test. Numerous United States employers are implementing random alcohol breath tests because of increased employee alcohol abuse.
On the alcohol breath test in CA after .08 how does the chart go up?
I’m not sure I completely understand your question…but…it goes .09, .10, .11, etc. Anything .08 or above is considered driving under the influence. The BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is how much of a concentration of alcohol is in your blood (duh)…over time it goes down as the alcohol is metabolized and therefore you become less intoxicated. Breath tests are considered comparitively unreliable in California, in fact I am pretty sure they are inadmissible in court but are usable for probable cause to arrest you. If you have burped right before taking the breath test, or sometimes if you have dental appliances which could have trapped alcohol, the reading will be incorrect (on the high end). Officers are instructed to watch a suspect to see if they burp for a certain period of time before administering the breathalyzer because that skews results. The blood test is more reliable, however keep in mind that after you are arrested it does take time to get your blood test done, so your BAC will change, and that is taken into consideration. If you go to court get an independent lab to test your blood sample as well because if there is a descrepancy (if theirs comes back lower, for instance) that will help your case.

Alcohol tests… how many days does it take for alcohol to completely leave your system?
I have heard that the new alcohol tests are very sensitive, that they can tell if you’ve been drinking even a week out? Is this true? I know that the new testing system actually detects a body produced ‘enzyme’ or something like that, and that’s how the test works.

What is the conversion on serum blood alcohol testing?
If a person’s serum blood alcohol is .186, what is his or her whole blood alcohol content? What is the conversion factor?
This is a tough one…if the serum blood alcohol content is .186 then the whole blood alcohol content is dependent upon the person’s body mass and propensity to properly metabolize alcohol from the blood system. In a word, the “whole” blood alcohol content can therefore vary greatly from person to person.

One of the alcohol abuse facts that appears to be frequently unnoticed is that employee drinking often results in reduced work performance. Many, if not most companies have developed ways to measure work performance. It is only logical to conclude that increased alcohol-related problems such as workplace injuries, more work-related accidents, increased workplace violence, and increased absenteeism result in poorer work performance and in a reduction in production.
And the reality of the situation is that employee drinking problems negatively affect every one of these production issues. When drinking during lunch or on job factored into the equation, it becomes even more evident that employee alcohol abuse negatively affects workplace job performance. Taking all of this into consideration makes it more understandable why an increasing number of employers are implementing workplace alcohol testing.
