Can using marijuana actually make you smarter? A recent study suggests that some patients with bipolar disorder who use marijuana actually performed better on certain neurocognitive tests. Reason for false-positive on Marijuana testing…?
I just got a job I really want and found out they require drug testing. I’m worried because, about a year ago, I was hospitalized for 3 days for severe depression. At that time they tested me, and the test came back positive for marijuana. I don’t smoke pot and I’m not around anyone who does! I finally convinced my shrink that I don’t, but she was pretty skeptical for a while. She never did run another test to check, unfortunately.
I’m hoping it was just a fluke or a lab mix-up, but I’m freaking out because I’m worried that maybe something I eat or meds I take might cause a false-positive result. I take Klonopin, Lexapro, omega-3 fish oil, and a multivitamin with one herb in it (lutein – tagetes erecta flower). Other than that, I can’t think of what might cause this, except for it being a fluke or mix-up that one time.
Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, etc.? Thanks.
Asparagus and ibuprofen can cause false positives. Ibuprofen is an over the counter pain reliever such as Motrin or Aleve. If you were taking these meds or easting asparagus I would ask for another test. Good Luck.

Alcoholism rates amongst British females between the ages of 16-24 has quintupled since 1980.
Are young women in Britain drinking that much more, or do you suspect these statistics are skewed? My own observations are that public drunkenness amongst young women is in epidemic proportions. If you go to any city centre on a Friday or Saturday night you see numerous examples of such behaviour–much more so than what was in evidence in say 1980. Moreover, I’m seeing more out of control drunkeness from young girls at Saturday afternoon football matches too. That was unheard of even 20 years ago. Then again, I could be wrong too. What do you think? Are British women drunker today, or is it just they aren’t hiding it as much as in days past? Is this ladette craze a passing fad, or are so many of these young girls on the long wobbly road to being booze hags?
I HAVE seen first hand the antics of the female Friday night ‘binge’ drinker,
and they are worse than any man
and when it come to a cat fight! watch-out.

A Parent’s Guide to Crystal Meth: How to Keep Your Kid Safe
Crystal meth is the most destructive drug in America today. Teens can get it, they love to experiment with available drugs, and they are not well aware of the real risks of meth use and abuse.
There are few drugs more addictive than crystal meth, and the intense and pleasurable high so easily seduces recreational users into abuse and addiction; and with addiction, the physical, mental and spiritual devastation is tragic.
Meth addicts age by literally decades in a few short years of abuse. Meth mouth (meth destroys the teeth) is but one of the obvious and external faces of the damage of meth, and the internal damage is just if not more severe. Meth use increases the risks for a host of cancers, for fatal heart disease, for Parkinson’s and even for very early dementia.
Meth takes happiness away
And the soul suffers most of all. There is a price to be paid for the extreme pleasure of a meth high, and meth addicts soon find the depression and dysphoria of sobriety unbearable, and need continual meth intoxication just to avoid the soul crushing feelings of normalcy. Those meth addicts that do conquer the cravings and the physical addiction are faced with months or even years of lingering depression, and some meth addicts report never truly feeling happy again after prolonged addiction(How to beat a meth addiction).
Parents need to protect their kids from the dangers of meth, but astonishingly, about half of all parents never even bother to speak with their kids about the dangers of the drug. Reflecting this, today’s teens are very ill informed as to the real dangers of meth use, and a recent study commissioned by the Meth Project (a non profit group) found that about one in three teens did not see much harm in experimenting with the drug, and an even scarier 25% even saw some benefits to meth use (weight loss, and enjoyment).
How to keep kids safe
There are a number of things that parents can do to keep kids safe from meth, but everything needs to start with a dialogue that continues throughout the years about the dangers of meth.
Additionally, parents need to stay involved and active in their teen’s life and make sure they are close and involved enough to be ready to spot any signs of drug or alcohol abuse, and if so, to get help at the earliest possible opportunity.
Parents need to make clear the family policy on drug and alcohol, discuss the reasons for your concerns, and also the consequences for breaking the family no-substance use policy. Parents also need to set a good example, and kids are quick to spot a hypocrite; and don’t often listen to a “do as I say and not as I do” type of parent.
Parents can set a good example by using alcohol only in moderation, and by never using illegal drugs.
There are no guarantees
There are no guarantees, and every time your teen leaves the house they step into a world of danger and temptation. All you can do is give them the tools they need to stay drug free, educate them as to the dangers, and stay involved enough to be able to spot a problem at the earliest possible opportunity.
You do your best and hope for the best; but if you don’t talk to your kids about the dangers of meth, you are taking a very big gamble with their health and happiness.

what is the best way to cut down on alcohol?
I think I may be developing an alcohol addiction, but I’m hoping that I don’t already have one. I drink 4-5 times a week, and I drink enough to get mildly drunk.
Yeah, the best way to avid alcohol addiction is learn to live without alcohol. This could take years or forever but if you wish to cut down, set boundaries for yourself. For instance, have 2 drinks max if you go out. It’s all about self control and rules I guess.

Drugs that treat alcohol/drug addiction?
There are few, if any, drugs that “treat” alcohol/drug addiction. There are, however, drugs that treat the symptoms of withdrawals and if they are administered and taken properly the addict can be weaned off of them over a period of time until they are no longer dependent on drugs or alcohol. These only treat physical addiction withdrawals, the mental part is up to the individual addict. Where I live heroin is the big drug of choice now. I have never seen anything like this drug destroy so many people (even the people who aren’t using). Whether it is you or a friend I wish you the best of luck. The addict really needs to check with his/her doctor to see what treatment is best for them.
