Alcohol Abuse Symptoms. If you display alcohol abuse symptoms you need to either stop drinking, learn to drink in moderation, or get alcohol treatment.
Can I treat Adrenal Fatigue but still be a caffeine addict?
After a few years of foolish habits (drug abuse, then alcohol addiction–now sober from booze 6 months; drugs stopped 2 years ago) it seems my ongoing health problem is related to Adrenal Fatigue. It is likely that all the drugs (it was REALLY bad for a while) exhausted my adrenal gland, and now I’m left with this god-awful condition.
I am faced with Chronic Fatigue symptoms, brain fog, mental confusion, slight weakness, lack of motivation, etc. Exercise helps but does NOT cure these problems.
I’m too lazy to adjust my diet (an average diet, a decent balance of grains, vegetables, and proteins) if it needs fixing. But I am also VERY, VERY unwilling to break my addiction to caffeine. Without caffeine I am left in a constantly underaroused state due to preexisting factors–severe ADD. Everything is boring. I need my “daily fix” of stimulation or I’m just slow and dreamy, and I can’t focus.
Is there ANY way to treat Adrenal Fatigue without giving up my caffeine addiction?

Janet and Emily were roommates at college. They were also on the college basketball team. Due to the fact that they were both older than twenty-one, they were legally allowed to drink. As they discovered, however, just because an individual is legally able to do something doesn’t mean that it is necessarily healthy.
Since both young women played basketball they were both concerned about their physical fitness and their health. So it wasn’t strange at all when Emily one afternoon asked Janet if she ever got concerned about the adverse alcohol effects on the body.
Janet said that she was aware that doing anything in excess is not healthy, and that this also applies to drinking. Both Janet and Emily then made up their minds that they would at all times drink in moderation so that they wouldn’t have to experience alcohol related problems in the future.

Kenny is a junior at a small public high school in the Northeast. Similar to a lot of his friends, he drinks wine and beer on the weekends. While watching TV one Wednesday night, he stumbled upon a special program about teenage alcohol abuse.
Until he saw this program, Kenny never saw himself as an alcohol abuser. He didn’t drink everyday and he “only” got drunk once or twice every month. In Kenny’s mind, getting intoxicated was less about abusive and excessive drinking and more about doing what all of his best friends were doing. After watching the TV program about teen alcohol abuse, however, he now realizes that every time he gets drunk, he is engaging in a special form of alcohol abuse called binge drinking.
The issue now is what Kenny will do about this information. Would he continue to drink and get drunk with his friends? Would he significantly “cut back” on his drinking and drink in moderation, or would he refrain from drinking entirely?

Do you really believe that the many adverse alcohol effects truly make a significant impact on most adolescents or young adults? It has been said that many young adults and teenagers think that they are bulletproof and that they think they will live forever.
How can we therefore expect adolescents and young adults who possess this type of mentality to think about the unhealthy and destructive outcomes of alcohol abuse or alcoholism before they go out drinking with their buddies?
Why should we expect young people to think about the negative consequences of abusive and hazardous drinking as they are going out to happy hour with their friends or to a bar to socialize with others on the weekend?
What is more, if most of their friends are drinking in an excessive manner and getting intoxicated quite frequently, how can we expect these teenagers or young adults to act differently than their friends and either drink in moderation or not at all?
I am not advocating abusive and excessive drinking for teenagers, young adults or for anyone. What I am saying is that when drinking is part of a person’s lifestyle and the lifestyle of his or her friends, it is extremely difficult to change the way he or she perceives his or her drinking behavior.

Kenny and Marie have been married for twelve years and have three children. While Marie was pregnant with her three children she totally abstained from drinking alcohol.
Now that she and Kenny are planning to have another child, Marie and Kenny have been reading online that according to some pediatricians, it is fine for pregnant women to drink in moderation as long as they do not waiver from this drinking plan.
Since Marie and Kenny were not exactly sure what to do about this, they made an appointment to see Marie’s pediatrician.
As soon as their doctor walked into the office and after their greeting, Marie asked her doctor the following: “Doctor Stinchcomb, Kenny and I are planning on having another child. What does the latest research say about drinking alcohol and pregnancy? Stated more precisely, is it OK for me to drink in moderation when I become pregnant?”
Doctor Stinchcomb thought for a moment and then said, “due to the fact that there is so much conflicting evidence, the best policy is to totally abstain from drinking while a woman is pregnant.”

Patti started to drink when she was twenty-six years old. That’s the positive news. The negative news is that when Patti decided to start drinking, she drank quite excessively, almost as if she were making up for the time when she didn’t drink as an adolescent or as a young adult.
Due to her abusive drinking, however, she has begun to experience a number of adverse alcohol effects. For example, she has suffered through many hangovers, she failed an alcohol test at work, and she doesn’t have her usual energy when she gets up in the morning.
As a consequence, Patti finally decided to call her physician and schedule an appointment in order to discuss her drinking problem. Hopefully her physician will give Patti a thorough physical exam and insist that she significantly reduce her drinking.
At this point, what are her options? If she can’t change her ways and drink in moderation, she will probably need to eventually get alcohol treatment.

Jack and Michelle have been married for thirty-eight years. Now that both of them are retired, they have several friends over for parties and for special events such as the Super Bowl, the Olympics, American Idol, the World Series, and the Masters Golf Tournament.
Michelle and Jack have been social drinkers most of their adult lives. When they have their special parties and get-togethers, then again, hardly anyone drinks in moderation. In other words, their special parties are basically invitations for abusive and excessive drinking.
Now that they are in their late sixties, they are beginning to see some of the adverse effects of alcohol in their lives. For example, they are certain that their irresponsible and abusive drinking has negatively affected their finances as well as their health.
Due to the fact that they have become more health-conscious in the past five or ten years, they agreed with one another that they would quit drinking abusively and excessively and would instead drink in moderation at all times, particularly during their parties and their special events.
Both Michelle and Jack were pleased with this decision because they addressed their drinking problem and came up with a doable and logical solution.

Kathy has been an excessive drinker her entire adult life. Now that she is almost forty-five years old, she is beginning to become more health conscious and actually wants to learn more about the negative effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism.
For example, is it possible for a long-term abusive drinker to significantly reduce her drinking and start to drink in moderation? Is her drinking negatively affecting her circulatory system? Is her drinking adversely affecting her sex life? Are heart problems and strokes linked to heavy drinking? Has she involved herself in binge drinking? Is her excessive drinking adversely affecting her organs and bodily systems? Is she running the risk of becoming alcohol dependent if she continues her heavy drinking?
By asking these questions, Kathy has concluded that her irresponsible and abusive drinking has probably contributed more to her health problems than any thing else she has done. And now, she wants to reverse or stop the damage so that she can live in a healthier, more productive manner.

“But we don’t drink all that much,” explained Stephen and Katherine while talking to their family doctor. This was in response to a series of tests their doctor had ordered to determine if Stephen and Katherine were experiencing some of the more routine effects of chronic alcohol abuse.
The doctor explained that while there may not be a causal relationship, the research literature points to a strong correlation between hazardous and abusive drinking and the respiratory problems both Stephen and Katherine had been experiencing.
The doctor’s suggestion was for Stephen and Katherine to significantly reduce the amount of alcohol they are drinking or to refrain from drinking altogether. In other words, they had to make sure that they would always drink in moderation or quit drinking entirely. Doing either of these, however, will be very hard for Stephen and Katherine because having three or four drinks every night was something that they honestly looked forward to.
Unfortunately, when serious alcohol related health problems emerge, the only doable solutions are abstention or substantial reduction. Now the big question is if Stephen and Katherine can follow through on their doctor’s “orders.”

The sign in the disco appeared to be out of place. Even though it made sense from a logical standpoint, from a business perspective it would seem to result in significantly less business. What was written on this sign and where was the sign located?
The sign read as follows: “practice alcohol abuse prevention” and it was located above the bar at the local disco. Many patrons asked the barmaids and the bartenders why the sign was placed in a business that served alcoholic beverages.
Interestingly, all the employees at the disco answered this question in a similar manner. “We want tons of people to have dinner, to drink responsibly, and to have a fun time at our quality establishment. We do not want any of our patrons to involves themselves in excessive or abusive drinking. Indeed, we want all of our customers to drink in moderation. The more people who find out about our business philosophy and who like the way we do business, the more patrons will come to our business, and the more money we will make.”

Many state legislatures have passed stricter laws for people who receive repeat “driving under the influence” convictions. For instance, getting a “hardship” license in order to go back and forth to work is getting more difficult, the fines have increased, mandatory jail time for repeat offenders is often required, and the length of time for license suspensions has increased.
I think the message is clear: don’t drink and drive and learn how to drink in moderation and more responsibly. And if you don’t, the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with you and “punish” you.

If people who involve themselves in abusive drinking were to learn more about the negative consequences of their drinking, I wonder how many of them would change their drinking behavior and either drink in moderation or quit drinking? This is a relevant question because at some level it zeros in on the heart of problem drinking.
Stated another way, more knowledge is virtually worthless if people don’t apply this knowledge to their lives. In short, I get the sense that many individuals openly ignore the health hazards and dangers that are linked to abusive and excessive drinking because the short-term “pay off” is greater for them when they drink than when they are sober.
In sum, there seems to be a lot of truth to the statement that involvement in alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction is a short-term response or a “quick fix” that has long-term, detrimental consequences.

The alcohol abuse and alcoholism research literature demonstrates the fact that there are numerous adverse alcohol effects when people engage in alcohol dependency or long-term alcohol abuse. For example, the following represents a short list of some of the negative outcomes of chronic alcoholism: an increase in failed promises and resolutions to one’s self and to others, the loss of control once a person takes his or her next drink, persistent remorse, an obsession with drinking, impaired thinking, and dysfunctional relationships.
This list, moreover, does not discuss the host of medical issues and problems that are linked to alcoholism. The message should be obvious to anyone who cares about his or her finances, employment, relationships, and health: if you cannot drink in moderation, then don’t drink at all.

Apparently a lot of people do not realize that alcohol poisoning can happen to someone who gets intoxicated only once or twice per year. In other words, if a person only gets drunk on his or her birthday, for example, he or she is still engaging in alcohol abuse. And if the person has had significantly more alcohol than his or her liver can metabolize, he or she can experience an alcohol overdose. And the worst part of this is that in rare circumstances, an alcohol overdose can be fatal.
The bottom line is this: in order to avoid alcohol abuse or alcohol poisoning, a person needs to always drink in moderation or not al all.
