Common withdrawal symptoms of weed and alcohol?
My boyfriend used to smoke weed and drink alcohol pretty much every day for the last two years. About a month and 1/2 ago he stopped doing all that. Since 2 days ago, he has been telling me that his stomach hurts and he threw up a few times, he has a headache, and is just completely drained and always wanting to sleep. And a few days ago before these symptoms started he blacked out for like 3 hours and was unresponsive to his friend shaking him to wake him up, but he has had blackouts before even while he was still smoking and drinking. He won’t go to the doctor because he doesn’t have insurance, so he has been taking cold medicine and Tylenol. He insists that these symptoms are just his body cleansing itself and that they are withdrawal symptoms. I’m just worried about him. Do these sound like they could be withdrawal symptoms?
The symptom of stopping weed is you may get anxious and ornery for a few days, not this. Alcohol withdrawal could be it, but you would have those symptoms the first week or so after quitting. Not a month and a half. I sympathize with him having no insurance, but he should get checked out by a doctor

But one woman’s honesty – Barbara Gordon’s honesty – changed all that. I’m Dancin…

Alcoholism rates amongst British females between the ages of 16-24 has quintupled since 1980.
Are young women in Britain drinking that much more, or do you suspect these statistics are skewed? My own observations are that public drunkenness amongst young women is in epidemic proportions. If you go to any city centre on a Friday or Saturday night you see numerous examples of such behaviour–much more so than what was in evidence in say 1980. Moreover, I’m seeing more out of control drunkeness from young girls at Saturday afternoon football matches too. That was unheard of even 20 years ago. Then again, I could be wrong too. What do you think? Are British women drunker today, or is it just they aren’t hiding it as much as in days past? Is this ladette craze a passing fad, or are so many of these young girls on the long wobbly road to being booze hags?
I HAVE seen first hand the antics of the female Friday night ‘binge’ drinker,
and they are worse than any man
and when it come to a cat fight! watch-out.

Factors On Which The Detoxification Treatment In Connecticut Depends
Detoxification treatment in Connecticut has always been considered to be an important aspect of addiction treatment in the state. This is considered to be a wholesome addiction recovery process. When the person is put through detoxification treatment in Connecticut, what actually happens is that the person is made to go through an internal body purification process. When this is done, the person’s health improves considerably. If there are any health complications in the body of the person, they are removed. Also, the person finds it much simpler to come out of the addiction problem because when the substance is completely removed from the body of the person, he or she will find it easier to come out of the temptation for the substance and will easily come out of the addiction problem.
But, the fact is that the detoxification treatment in Connecticut is not the same throughout. The pattern of this treatment depends from one treatment center to another and even in the same treatment center, different patients will go through a different recovery process. Hence the program that has been implemented for one patient will differ from how it is implemented for another patient.
However, if you are looking for such a treatment program, it is necessary to understand what brings about these differences in different programs for detoxification treatment in Connecticut? Here we see some of the factors that cause these differences in the treatment program.
Type of the Patient’s Addiction
The nature and type of the patient’s addiction is one of the most significant factors on which the alcohol or drug detox in Connecticut depends. This program will be conducted depending on what kind of drug the patient is addicted to. For instance, if the patient is addicted to a highly addictive substance such as heroin or methamphetamine, the drug detox program will be much different than if the patient is addicted to alcohol. Hence a person will be given a different method of treatment after a careful analysis of his or her condition. Though detoxification treatment means cleaning the addictive substance from the body of the person, the nature of the substance will play an important role in deciding the detox because different substances need different ways to be eliminated from the body of the patient.
Time Frame of the Patient’s Addiction
The nature of the detoxification treatment in Connecticut depends on how long the patient has been with their addiction problem. If the person has been consuming the substance since a very long time, there are much higher chances of the person to withdraw itself from the cravings of the substance. Thus this makes the program even more difficult. detoxification means eliminating the substance completely from the body of the person and this becomes decidedly difficult if the person has been with the addiction problem since a long time. A long-term accumulation of the substance in their body will make this process much more difficult.
Health Complications within the Patient
Due to some or the other kind of health complication, addicted people may find it very difficult to go through the detox treatment. Along with that, they will not be allowed the same medications that a normal healthy individual can use. Different treatment methods will need to be implemented.
Psychological Condition of the Patient
The key factor determining the progress of drug rehabilitation is the psychological condition. Person with some mental complications are difficult to treat for their alcohol and drug addictions because they cannot work the determination needed to keep them away from using the substance. During detoxification, the person needs to be abstinence from the addictive substance, but with weak mental health he or she will not be able to go through the treatment program.
Age of the Patient
A patient who is young may not be able to use all the medications that are prescribed for detox but a patient who is older might have some health complications due to which all medications may not be acceptable. In fact they may be using some prescribed medicines that may be contraindicated for some of these detox medications. Hence, age also becomes an important factor. Also, there are several emotional issues involved with people of different ages.
Family Setup of the Patient
In case the patient has good family support, the treatment becomes easier and much faster It also helps to bring them out of their detoxification phase. This is because the family can motivate and encourage them to stay with their addiction treatment. They are also provided with proper counseling for the families by some centers of drug rehabilitation to do this. Under the right kind of guidance and training, families become necessary elements to bring the patients out of their cravings and to bring them into a completely recovered addiction-free life.

Is there any difference between an Alcohol dependent and an Alcoholic?
If you took what I drink in a day(every day) I’d probably be classed as a “Binge drinker.” I am not drinking liters of spirits all day but saying that, if I wake up (come round) and there’s an open can, I’ll not think twice about drinking it.
There is no difference between the two. An alcoholic is dependent on alcohol. The only way to tell for sure if you are an alcoholic is to stop drinking to see if you have withdrawal symptoms.

Conventional Addiction Treatment Can Sometimes Increase Dependence
Despite heroic treatment efforts, most people who have become dependent upon a substance (e.g., alcohol, food) or an activity (e.g., gambling, pornography) relapse again and again. In fact, for certain individuals, the conventional therapeutic strategy—with its emphasis on admitting powerlessness over a “disease”—makes their problem worse.

Cross Addiction
$173.94
Cross-addition is the single greatest relapse factor. Those who seek treatment generally have an honest desire to remain abstinent from alcohol or another drug of choice. Yet most can also name a drug they’ve tried that they considered “safe” for themselves, one they believe they can control. Firsthand testimony from recovering alcoholics and addicts, chemical dependency professionals, and a medic…

Problems Associated With Drinking
Many people take an occasional drink with no problems. Some people drink moderately and appear to have no repercussions. There are times, however, when drinking can be risky business.
Health problems can develop and relationships can suffer as well as careers. If you are concerned about any of these scenarios you may want to stop drinking. Read on and find out about some of the problems associated with drinking, even moderately.
Did you know that you don’t need to drink much alcohol before your driving ability suffers? There are driving skills that can be impaired by a blood alcohol level as low as 00.2%.
An empty stomach makes the alcohol react even more quickly. If you continue to drink, your driving will become even more impaired. Most states have the blood alcohol level set at 0.08% but driving skills can be negatively affected at far lower levels.
Many medications do not mix with alcohol. You should stop drinking if you are taking medications that do not react well with the consumption of alcohol.
There are even over-the-counter medications like antihistamines that do not mix well with alcohol. You can be risking liver damage and other problems if you are taking medications that should not be combined with alcohol. Read the package directions, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns.
There are many other problems that can occur when people drink and are not willing to stop drinking. You may end up at odds or even separated from family members and friends. Your job situation may become strained and you could risk losing the chance at a promotion or even lose your job.
Often people who drink end up having problems with the legal system because of the poor choices made while drinking. This can be costly in many ways.
Licenses and insurance can be revoked and time in jail may be required. Many of these legal situations will require the expense of an attorney and you may need to miss valuable time at work.
Women who are pregnant and drink may be endangering their unborn child. Many birth defects are related to women who drink during pregnancy. If you are pregnant you should stop drinking immediately.
Fetal alcohol syndrome is an extremely serious problem that can occur and it leads to children who have severe mental, physical, and behavioral problems that can last for the lifetime of the child.
There are long term problems associated with drinking. Heart disease, liver disease and certain kinds of cancer can develop gradually. Pancreatitis is a condition that can occur if a person drinks too much.
The pancreas helps digest the food we eat and also helps regulate the blood sugar in our bodies by producing insulin.
Men often develop these problems more slowly than women even when they consume more alcohol. Some of these adverse health situations can be reversed if a person stops drinking soon enough.
Many of these health problems can be treated. If you know someone who is drinking too heavily or if this is a problem that you are experiencing you should take action. Talk to the person or make an appointment to see your doctor.

Alcoholism – Question for Counselors
How would, and in what way would you adjust/modify your treatment plan if your client was diagnosed with AXIS II: 301.70 Antisocial Personality Disorder? What would your plan be without the disorder? Please explain your reasoning, and base all on the information below.
Scenario:
32 y/o male
alcohol dependence x 19yrs.
marijuana abuse x 19 years.
2 DUI’s posted .18 on first and .21 on the second.
blackouts and daily consumption of 6-8 per day.
astranges from parents.
On second marriage.
Wife wants him to quit due to financial problems – currently separated because he struck her while drunk a month ago.
Full time job is at risk due to lateness.
Educational level is GED.
Referred to treatment by probation.
In my opinion, he should be locked up and undergo a treatment program in a 24/7 supervised place until he is pronounced cured—even if it takes the rest of his life. Good luck with that, though.

Does alcoholism result from excessive alcohol use?
Why do some people get addicted to alcohol and some don’t? Is it that addiction results from excessive alcohol use, but moderate use won’t cause addiction?
Some people will probably say it’s partially genetic. If that’s true, is it because addiction results from excessive alcohol use, and genetics makes people more likely to use alcohol excessively? Or would people with a genetic disposition to addiction be much more likely than others to become addicted, even if they drink alcohol much less often?
Good Question!

Overcoming addiction….now what?
I’m trying to get sober…I’ve been addicted to pain pills for about three years but before that it was alcohol and before that was cocaine. I’m only 26 and I guess you could say I’ve never been one who likes to be sober. I know there is some deeper emotional reason for that but I haven’t dug that deep yet. I decided to quit taking pills because I buy them off the street and they run $5-$10 a pill depending on what you want. I could easily spend $100 a day. I’ve lost a lot within the past 3 years…eviction, my family, morals, I’ve lied, stole….just haven’t been a very good person. But I’m ready to change!! I just don’t know how to do this…I’m bored…and very antsy. I can’t get the thought of using out of my head. Anyone have any advice? Thank you very much
Good for you! the first step towards recovery is the WANT to change. I think the first thing you need to do is find that “deeper emotional reason” because the only way to do is heal the source of your addiction, then everything else will follow suit. I think checking yourself into rehab/NA meetings will really help get you into a new environment and away from things that could possibly trigger it and help you get a fresh start. The thing that has worked for me in healing my addiction is a website called innerbonding.com. It helps you get in touch with that deeper emotional reason and helps you find healing in a source greater than yourself that you can surrender your powerlessness over to, whether that’s God for you or not.
