alcohol information

Alcohol Information.  Here’s some basic alcohol information: if you drink excessively over time, you will probably suffer from alcohol abuse or alcoholism.

Is there any information about the effects alcohol has on adults with Asperger’s?

….Such as what impact does alcohol consumption have upon those adults with Asperger’s?

I dont know about and studies, but I can tell you first hand from someone who has it and what happens when I drink. I get anxiety and shut down. I dont get wild or relaxed like many. So its just one reason for me not to drink anyway.

alcohol effects

Alcohol Long Term Effects. If a person continues to drink in a hazardous manner, he or she will typically experience alcohol long term effects such as alcoholism, the shakes, the DTs, and very poor health.

What are the long term effects of a small amount of alcohol?

What would you say the long term effects of say three beers a week would be
Would you slowly start to get more stupid as you gradually killed off your braincells
Well how worse off would your liver be than not drinking at all

There is no proven evidence that alcohol kills brain cells.

3 beers a week is not significant for adverse effect, and its been proven up to 1 drink a day for women, and 2 for men has health benefits.

Alcohol Health Effects

alcohol health effects

Alcohol Health Effects. With repeated, heavy drinking, a person will typically experience some adverse alcohol health effects such as alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, blackouts, and hangovers.

Why is Alcohol allowed yet Marijuana is illegal and much less harmfull?

Alcohol is the main cause of liver failier and can even cause cancer. It causes so much damage to society ie, road accidents, fights resulting in fatal injury, sleeping or cheating with other partners, not to mention brain impairment and making yourself look like a complete asshole. Alcohol has no doubt caused so many deaths.
Marijuana on the other hand, what does it do apart from get you high and giggly and having feeling of peace. It on its own has never been linked to a single death and has no way near as many detrimental health effects as alcohol does.
So why do the stupid government frown upon the green Weed?
Weed does not lead to other drugs; not even addiction to it.
Alcohol DOES and also to cigarettes.

I have not used marijuana for several years however you are correct, alcohol is much more harmful than marijuana. I see nothing wrong with people doing this stuff at home in the evening or on the weekends. Our govt. looks foolish and shows it’s ignorance on banning this substance. Alcohol and tobacco lobbies are very powerful and know that if it were legal, their profits would plunge. And you know money talks, just follow the money blah blah blah. If marijuana were legal, traffic deaths would also drop as well as lung and all other cancers. Unfortunately, until Americans become educated on this subject and not by the wrong people it will be illegal. Tobacco is the biggest killer first and second hand smoke is pure poison yet until America grows up- oh well.

Alcohol Causes

alcohol causes

Alcohol Causes. Research has demonstrated that heredity factors and environmental factors are causes of alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Recent evidence suggests that drinking coffee and alcohol probably does not cause acid reflux. Though there seems to be a link, research indicates that it doesn’t seem to be a causal link.

In other words, if you don’t already have acid reflux or heartburn, coffee and alcohol will not induce these conditions.

However, people who suffer from heartburn are often acutely aware of the effects of coffee, wine or cocktails on their system. Many acid reflux sufferers have learned to abstain, or use medications to control the painful effects of drinking coffee or alcohol.

Personally, in the past, if I had a cup of coffee in the morning, I would be fine for a few hours, but inevitably I’d have acid reflux later that day. The same is true of alcohol: Later that night or the following morning I would experience heartburn. Fortunately, that’s no longer a problem (see the link below).

Alcohol and coffee are being promoted in some circles because of surprising health benefits associated with their consumption. Of course, you probably shouldn’t start drinking these beverages simply for their health benefits — it’s not yet clear whether the benefits outweigh the negative effects, especially where alcohol is concerned.

However, most of us drink alcohol and coffee simply because we enjoy them, and when acid reflux disrupts this, it can be upsetting. Fortunately, there are solutions besides strictly limited your consumption of coffee and wine. Personally, I use a harmless acid reducer known as Prelief to drink coffee without heartburn (and alcohol too) — just check out the link below for more info.

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

12 Step Program. Perhaps the most famous 12 step program is Alcoholics Anonymous. Alcoholics Anonymous has helped millions of people involved in alcoholism and chronic alcohol abuse worldwide stop drinking and start on the road to recovery.

The 12 steps are to help you stop drinking, but once an alcoholic, for ever an alcoholic. The addiction to alcohol won’t disappears because you stop drinking. Alcohol Statistics. Studying alcohol statistics can reveal how such facts and statistics can help people learn more about alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Information on Alcoholism and Interesting Facts How much do you really know about alcoholism? You probably know that it is a very common problem, but the truth is that alcoholism information doesn’t reach people who are not in some way involved with this disease. Thus, some of the facts and statistics might surprise you a lot. • It is estimates that annually more than 100,000 deaths, just in the U.S., occur because of alcoholism. • Almost half of the fatal car accidents are alcohol-related. • An average adult alcoholic drinks approximately 2.18 gallons of alcohol per year. • The more educate and wealthy a person is, the more likely is to drink more. • Luxemburg is the country with the highest per capita consumption of alcohol. It is followed by Hungary, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Germany, while the U.S. comes 26th on this list. • Alcoholism costs the U.S. alone approximately 40 billion dollars per year. • Teens who receive some kind of education at home related to alcoholism and learn from their parents about the dangers of drinking alcohol, are less likely to drink , in comparison with those whose parents avoid discussing the issue with them. • There are more than 100,000 Alcoholics Anonymous groups worldwide. These are some facts and statistics related to alcoholism that might astound you, because people usually think that the more uneducated and poor someone is, the more likely is to become an alcoholic, although the truth is quite the opposite. The important thing though is not what we know, but how we address alcoholism and how we deal with this alcoholism information and facts. Knowing these alcoholism information and facts, we make the first step in addressing the actual problem. It is really very important for parents to talk with their kids, especially when teens about alcohol in a friendly and comprehensive way, because that is how they can persuade them to avoid this bad habit. Especially in Northern America there are numerous resources available, which can help treat and prevent alcohol abuse. Alcohol statistics and information is not just numbers; they have to be a motivation and fundamentals for action. In fact the statistics, like the ones mentioned above, should be used as action steps for preventing several situations relate to alcoholism, such as driving while drunk. If for instance parents discuss with their kids about drunk driving telling them how dangerous it is, kids are less likely to drink. If someone is an alcoholic, then he should have full support from his family and friends; this is quite critical, as well. The good news is that treatment based on the alcoholism information and statistical knowledge is most likely to be effective in a long term basis.

Alcoholism Test

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Alcoholism Test. As alcohol abuse and alcoholism increase, increasingly more U.S. employers are implementing random alcohol testing procedures in the workplace for their employees.

What is the correct method for Drug Testing and Alcohol Testing?

I read a post made by a certified urine tester and breath analyzer that urine tests are for drugs such as marijuana, amphetamines, etc. and alcohol tests are breath tests which are accurate up to ten hours. Is this the correct method and factual information for the following tests due to probation?

urine tests for alcohol are very unreliable. breath tests by hand held devices are used strictly as a screening device. most clinics will screen someone before a more costly blood test for court. also evidential breathalyzer machines can cost thousands of dollars.

Most clinics that i’ve talked to regarding this subject use the alcoscan al7000 premium model to screen clients first. the best part about this model besides the accuracy, is that one could swap the sensor without sending the unit in for calibration.

Alcohol Awareness

alcohol awareness

Alcohol Awareness. With the increase of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in this country and in other industrialized nations in the world, it is clear that people need more alcohol awareness so they can avoid the damaging and unhealthy consequences of excessive and abusive drinking.

Alcoholism is a stage of disease caused due to an excessive intake of alcohol. The Alcoholism physical signs develops in person when the acute form of this disease is changed to it chronic form with time and disproportionate usage of alcohol. The personal tolerance of a person to alcohol is another factor the effects the physical health of that person. The temporary effects of alcoholic drinks sometimes vary from outgoing, irritating behavior to severe illness or even demise.

Mild utilization of alcoholic drinkables for around two pegs may damage reasoning ability in a person and results in poor judgment. This can also lead to lower reticence that changes the normal behavior of the person. For instance, the person becomes more conversational and shows extraordinary sexual desires.

Another serious stage that is caused due to consistent alcohol intake is lack of coordination and reaction especially during vehicle driving. Most of the people who intake a small quantity of alcohol feels that they are all right and are able to drive. However, they do not realize the fact that the toxic beverage suppresses both their mental capabilities and the reflexes. The main cause of vehicle accidents around the world is due to the effect of alcohol on man.

The blood vessels in the human body quickly absorb the alcohol consumed. The absorption rate depends upon the quantity of intake, duration and the quantity as well as the quality of food consumed. If the person has a habit of taking fat and carbohydrate rich food, the rate of absorption of alcohol to the blood stream will decrease to a greater extent. This is not same in every case, especially with champagne that absorbs faster.

The physical symptoms of alcoholism usually start to expose after ten to fifteen minutes after the alcohol consumption. The BAC or the blood and alcohol content reach its max after half an hour of alcohol intake. The BAC remains stable until the person’s liver is capable of alcoholic metabolism.

Major Physical Signs of Alcoholism:

There are some major short-term physical signs of alcoholism in a human body. They are:

* Decreased Inhibitions: When the blood alcohol content in a person arrives at 0.05, the normal behavior starts to vary markedly. A person addicted to alcohol is not aware of the fact that the toxic harmful drug can badly affect his behavior. The physical signs include sexual promiscuity, vehicle driving under the alcohol influence, unlawful drug utilization and sometimes violence.

* Lack of Harmonization: When the BAC reaches 0.10, the person is badly affected with inaudible speech due to poor harmonization. The alcohol intoxication affects the thinking of the user and tends to lack of reasoning and coordination. These can further lead to many falls as well as major accidents.

* Pass Out and Memory Loss: The continuous usage of alcohol affects the normal functioning of the bran. Since the blood stream of a human being absorbs toxic materials quickly and sent this to the brain, the person will be affected with memory loss and pass outs. They are not even aware of their own actions at certain times.

* Nausea or Vomiting: When you consume a huge quantity of alcohol that is considered as a poison, our body tries to resist the toxic material by creating nausea or vomiting in the consumer. In other cases, the person consuming alcohol feels nauseous since the alcohol badly affects the sense of equilibrium of the body.

Alcoholism Withdrawal

alcoholism

Alcoholism Withdrawal. When alcoholics suddenly stop drinking, they almost always experience alcoholism withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms need to be treated by professionals.

Alcoholism has always been the biggest problem to all nations and a lot of cures have been found lately. Common people are now self aware of the gravity of the problem and consequently drug abuse cases in hospitals have increased dramatically. But some people addicted to alcohol still hide the fact while going for any critical treatment. They say alcohol is not a problem at all. But after a period of withdrawl of alcohol the typical signs start to come up and these are known as alcohol withdrawal symptoms (AWS). A number of alcohol abuse cases have been studied in rehabilitation centers to fight AWS and successfully implemented with the outcome of new alcohol withdrawal nursing techniques.

After a constant period of withdrawal of alcohol patients tend to exhibit the following symptoms – tremors, hypertension, tachycardia, palpitation etc. sometimes the situation can get real hard and life threatening symptoms may also get showed up. This is called alcohol withdrawal delirium. This condition can be identified by mental disorder, diaphoresis or cardiovascular abnormalities.

The first step to be taken in alcohol withdrawal nursing should be to evaluate whether the victim has been involved in alcohol abuse or not. If yes, quantity of his regular intake of alcohol must be recorded. A liver and pancreatic function evaluation should be done. A many alcohol cases have been found to involve malnutrition. So, nutritional therapy is also suggested. In case of any urgency the patient can be given a dose of anti-anxiety or anti-psychotic drugs. Drug can be given on regular basis or on symptoms basis. A thorough report should be made and provided to the patient’s health care provider. If required the patient should be advised for admission to alcohol rehabilitation centre. These alcohol withdrawal symptoms are very easy to spot on and they should be identified in the beginning it self to avoid any further complicacies.

Now if you or your loved ones have tried to give up alcohols before but failed, then you may want to make a halt on Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre, which offers world class proved programs in alcohol withdrawal nursing. And during treatment any AWS will be taken care of perfectly.

Alcoholism Stages

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

When you see someone in the street drinking something out of a brown paper bag, you automatically assume that they are drinking alcohol, although it is difficult to pin point back to when it actually took off. We can though confirm that the ideology of alcoholism dates back to 1849 when Magnus Huss first linked the consumption of alcohol to serious health conditions.

Willpower is essentially the same as not using any technique at all, but only relying on one’s own willpower to avoid picking up another drink. Now this idea has been tested a million times over by virtually every alcoholic who has tried to beat the problem of drink, and the consensus is that it is never a sustainable method for anyone.

The first part, the early alcoholism stages, involved someone needing alcohol more and more. At this point, they can still stop drinking if they want, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult, and they are starting to use it more and more as a stress reducer, perhaps after a long day at work or dealing with a stressful situation. Even if you think you are still here, you need to get help before it progresses to something far worse, which it will if left unattended to. At this point, it’s more or les a means to help you forget about your problems at least for he time being, which is really the only benefit that alcoholism has.

Drug and alcohol interventions are very effective if done the proper way. Having the family willing to do this is the most important and always the first step. Once the family realizes this problem can not go on the intervention company is the next step. The intervention coordinator will then go over what steps need to be taken to have the most effective intervention as possible. Once everyone is on the same page the interventionist will fly out to meet with the family.

Alternative alcoholism and addiction treatments are also becoming more popular. Alternative alcoholism treatments and the like definitely have a role to play – but I still think they should be used alongside a more traditional approach first – because there is so much to gain from the professionals who help you in a place like rehab.

There are many methods available to help you stop alcohol consumption but these treatments work at the conscious level only. The best treatment for alcohol addiction will be hypnosis; hypnosis will not only help you in stop alcohol addiction at a conscious level but also at an unconscious level. There are many smp3 on the Internet regarding alcohol addiction. You should undergo all the sessions of the treatment and start living a new life where you can be a social drinker or best of all a non-drinker.

Hypnosis treatment helps deal with the problem at grass roots levels and as such your chances of falling prey to addiction yet again are negligible. Hypnosis can help you start on a new path in life and soon you’ll be on your way to recovery without having to waste your precious time, and above all life to this life threatening addiction.

Alcoholism Facts

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

The differance between heavy drinking and alcoholism is based not on the amount that is being drunk but on the way, the drinking is affecting the life of the drinker.

There are Seven Key Signs of Alcohol Dependence

1) The person develops a tolerance for alcohol. This means that it takes more and more alcohol to feel the same level of intoxication.

2) The person has withdrawal symptoms. This means that they feel sick when there is no alcohol in their body. These symptoms include nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety.

3) The person often drinks more than he does or she had originally intended to drink.

4) The person attempts to cut down or to stop drinking but all attempts on their own are failures and they just continue to drink more and more.

5) The person spends a lot of time and effort making sure he or she can get alcohol.

6) The person gives up opportunities for social, recreational, and professional activities because of their drinking.

7) The person continues to drink despite having physical and psychological problems because of the drinking.

Signs Of Alcoholism

For the purposes of diagnosis among professional diagnosticians, if a person has three of these seven signs then they are considered alcohol dependent. There are some other “less formal” type signs that can be used to determine if someone is drinking too much.

1) The person begins to miss work or is less successful at work.

2) The person seems angry or sad a lot.

3) The person hits or physically abuses members of the family.

4) The person emotionally abuses members of the family.

5) The person has blackouts (cannot remember what he or she did while drunk).

6) The person has hangovers (feels really sick the day after drinking).

Alcoholism doe not go away by itself so it is extremely important for friends and family members who recognize any combination of these symptoms or signs to encourage the person to seek treatment. In the long-term alcoholism can cause cirrhosis and cancer of the liver, heart and central nervous system damage, memory loss, impotence and a high risk of over dosing.

Alcoholism Facts

People who abuse alcohol may not want to admit that they have a problem because they are ashamed or embarrassed or maybe even they do not want to change their lifestyle.

Alcoholism can affect anyone and does not discriminate based on race, age, or circumstances. It is a treatable disease, but the person seeking treatment must be willing to give it up entirely. The treatment community for alcoholism typically supports a zero tolerance complete abstinence-based approach to treatment.

Research has shown that very few alcoholics can simply cut down on their drinking and be able to know when they have had enough and can stop. Once that tolerance is built up, the body craves the feeling of intoxication and the only way to rid the body of those cravings is through total abstinence.

Treatment For Alcoholism

Alcoholism, most importantly, is a treatable disease. It cannot always be controlled but there are large success rates with treatment. The alcoholic must remember that they will still have the disease even if they are no longer drinking and they will always be considered to be “recovering”.

Group therapy and psychotherapy

The form of group therapy that appears to be of the most benefit to people is the “mutual-help-group-counselling” approach that is often put on by a variety of helpful organizations, either by themselves or in combination with others. These include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Women For Sobriety, Rational Recovery, Smart Recovery and LifeRing Secular Recovery.

Adolescent Alcoholism

adolescent alcoholism
Help on a conclusion sentence for an essay?

It’s an opinion essay, about how strongly i agree with the prompt
The prompt is about a drinking license

i need a conclusion sentence for my intro paragraph

don’t critique it, i can’t rewrite it again. i just need help with the conclusion sentence.

“earl rochester believes that since alcoholism is becoming a public health crisis, the U.S. should develop a licensing system for drinking. The process of getting a drinking license would be very similar to getting a drivers license. If you abused your privelages, you’ll face arrest or loss of license. I agree with Earl Rochester partially. In my opinion, yes, most adolescents and adults are drinking. I also agree that alcoholism is becoming a health crisis.
I do not agree that there should be a licensing system to be able to possess and consume alcohol”

I’ll help you with the last two actually:

And while I agree that alcoholism is becoming a health crisis, I do not agree that a license should be necessary to possess and consume alcohol.

I start drinking and do not know when to stop. This is because I’ve developed an immunity to it. I just drink on weekends, but I’m a lush and I can drink more than all my friends. I realize that I involve myself in binge drinking. I don’t ever drink and drive and when I drink, I always call a taxi because I don’t want hurt anyone. I’m an adjuster with the Union and haven’t missed a day of work in 8 years.

Answer. If you do not know when or how stop drinking once you start you have a problem with alcohol and you may be an alcoholic. Talk to your doctor and join AA before you mess up your life. There’s nothing worse than seeing a person die a slow and painful death of as a result of liver or pancreatic cancer

The Illogic of Excessive and Abusive Drinking

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

man who does not want to hear about his abusive drinkingWith all of the medical and alcohol abuse research that has validated the fact that adverse alcohol effects result from excessive and abusive drinking, I wonder why anyone would choose to drink in a hazardous and irresponsible manner.

Stated more precisely, with the wide array of employment problems, legal issues, relationship difficulties, financial issues, and health problems that are linked to alcoholism and chronic alcohol abuse, why would anyone with common sense want to drink in a hazardous and abusive manner?

Indeed, when alcohol related problems are put under the microscope and analyzed more closely, drinking in an irresponsible and excessive manner makes even less sense and becomes even more illogical.

After reviewing the research literature the point is so central that it needs to be restated: with all of the unhealthy and destructive outcomes that are directly or indirectly correlated with repeated, excessive drinking, why would anyone want to involve himself or herself in alcohol abuse or alcoholism?

Why Students Need to Learn About Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

female teen drinking wineJamie was a junior at a large city high school.  One afternoon, the health teacher, Miss Schilling, decided to talk about the legal, employment, relationship, financial, and health issues that are linked to hazardous and abusive drinking in general and associated with underage drinking and teenage alcohol abuse in particular.

Jamie listened intently for around ten minutes, and then got very aggravated.  Finally, she raised her hand and asked the following question.  “Miss Schilling, why do we need to learn about alcohol abuse and alcoholism and the negative effects of underage drinking?  Nearly everyone in this room is already drinking so why make an effort to tell us all of this negative stuff?”

Miss Schilling told Jamie that because most of the students in her class will drink, they need to know up front the about the hazards and the dangers of their actions so that they can avoid the adverse consequences of underage drinking.

Abusive Drinking and A Family History of Alcohol Related Fatalities

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

bottle of beer with yellow backgroundRachael watched her father drink himself to death and join a long list of alcohol related fatalities in her family.  Rachael’s maternal great grandfather, paternal grandfather, and several aunts and uncles on both sides of the family either died directly from hazardous and abusive drinking or their lives were substantially shortened due to their chronic alcohol abuse or alcoholism.

At one point Rachael began wondering if she too would become an alcohol abuser or an alcohol dependent person and die prematurely from this disease.

In fact, Rachael was so worried about this that she scheduled an appointment with her doctor to discuss her concerns regarding her drinking and her family history of drinking problems.

Her doctor told her that alcohol addiction does in fact run in families and that if she made sure to always drink in moderation, she probably wouldn’t face any serious alcohol related problems.

Then her doctor told her that if she wanted to make sure that he would never have to fear alcohol dependency and any alcohol related problems all she would have to do is totally stop drinking.  In all honesty, this second option was making more and more sense to Rachael the more she thought about her family and the damaging and life threatening consequences they faced because of their abusive and irresponsible drinking.

The Fatal Effects of Alcoholism and Chronic Alcohol Abuse

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

doctor consoling man about the death of his alcoholic wifeResearch shows that increasing numbers of people throughout the world are starting to experience various alcoholism and alcohol abuse effects.

Based on the number of diseases, illnesses, and aliments that are indirectly or directly associated with alcohol dependency and chronic alcohol abuse, it is only logical to conclude that as increasing numbers of people begin to engage in excessive and abusive drinking, increasing numbers of people will experience the adverse effects of long term alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

While it seems that many people ignore the multitude of health problems that are correlated with abusive and hazardous drinking, it needs to be highlighted that many of the negative alcohol abuse and alcoholism effects can and do result in the loss of life.  Examples include heart disease, hepatitis, pancreatitis, cancer, strokes, and cirrhosis.
