What are some apple allergy symptoms?

Just finished eating an apple and my face got flushed and I started getting a prickly sensation in my face, neck and my tongue was slightly numb. I was trying to find some info on the net but couldn’t find anything specific. I use to get the same sensation if I drank beer or any alcoholic beverage that’s why I don’t consume alcholic drinks anymore. Any thoughts?

i’m allergic to apples and my tongue and gums and throat get really itchy. I’m allergic to most fruits and the reaction is all the same. You may just be allergic to a different part of the apple, and are getting different symptoms. Also, you’re probably allergic to the hops in beer…I have sever tree allergies that lead to my fruit and nut allergies. you may have allergies but for different reasons.

alcohol abuse

Alcohol Symptoms. The vast majority of alcoholics will experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms when they try to abruptly quit drinking. These alcohol withdrawal symptoms need to be treated by professionals.

how do i relieve the symptoms of gerd when i drink alcohol?

i enjoy an occasional night of partying w/friends & family but i have gerd … is there a way to decrease the extreme pain & misery i get the day after? a little relief would help.

Take a proton pump inhibitor like Aciphex, Protonix, Prilosec, Prevacid, Axid, etc. about 20-30 minutes before you start to drink.
Drink water in between.
Eat starchy foods with your drinks (like bread, crackers, etc.)

As you know, alcohol is not the best thing for your esophagus.

Good luck.

Alcohol Withdrawal

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

There are a group of symptoms that may occur when a person suddenly stops drinking alcohol. These symptoms may take place after either chronic or prolonged ingestion of alcohol. While not everyone who stops drinking will experience withdrawal symptoms, most people who have been drinking heavily or for a long period of time will have some form of withdrawal symptoms. It is hard to predict which symptoms an individual will experience.

If you have been drinking for years or if you have been drinking alcohol in large amounts you may want to contact a professional before you stop drinking suddenly. Going cold turkey can be dangerous and may not be successful.

Before you stop drinking there are some symptoms you should be aware of. There are both psychological and physical symptoms and they range from mild to moderate to severe. If you know about the symptoms before you quit you may have a better chance of managing them.

You may have feelings of shakiness, nervousness or jumpiness. Your anxiety level may rise or you may be more irritable than usual. You also may become easily excited and have problems with fatigue or depression.

Other mild to moderate psychological symptoms include difficulty thinking clearly and bad dreams. You may experience emotional mood problems like emotional volatility or rapid emotional changes.

Mild to moderate physical symptoms may include but are not limited to headaches, either pulsing or general, and sweating, especially the face or the palms of the hands. Your sleeping patterns may be disrupted and you may suffer from insomnia. You may experience nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Your heart may race and your skin may feel clammy. Other symptoms are hand tremors or abnormal and involuntary movements of the eyelids.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be severe. People who stop drinking alcohol suddenly may suffer from convulsions and fever. They may also have problems with agitation and they may be confused. Delirium tremens can occur as well. There are times when a person who withdraws from the consumption of alcohol will have blackouts. This is when the person forgets what happened during a certain drinking episode.

It is usually a good idea for someone who is struggling with an addiction to alcohol to get help rather than trying to stop drinking on their own. There are many trained professionals and excellent programs available. These people and programs know the best ways to handle alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Before you try to stop drinking alcohol on your own, consider getting help. The withdrawal and recovery process can be easier if a person receives professional help. Support systems are available, too, and these are often extremely helpful.

If you think alcohol has become a problem in your life, there are ways to handle the situation. Getting the help you need and the assistance to give up the addiction will allow you to stop drinking surrounded by those who are trained to help. Going it on your own is usually not a successful and often is much more difficult.

getting drunk

Duration of Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

When I decided to quit drinking alcohol, the first issue I looked into is the fear of alcohol withdrawal symptoms that may occur to me if I suddenly stop drinking. The fact that it is fatal to some cases almost dampens my spirit and I almost gave up my plans and preparations to kick the habit. It is likely that most alcoholics who have been abusing alcohol have fear of the sufferings and pains he may experience when he decides to kick the habit for good. This situation can make an individual bring his decision to a halt in fighting alcohol addiction and may continue to abuse the substance that can ruin his physical and mental capabilities and bring havoc to his life in the end.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms are signs which occur in the body when an individual suddenly stops drinking alcohol after a long period of time abusing the substance or heavy alcohol consumption. Signs consist of insomnia (inability to sleep at night or during quit drinking process), trembling (hands or body shakes), anxiety (worrying about anything which triggers someone to feel depressed and unhappy) and other symptoms that are related to physical, mental and emotional aspects. The outcome of alcohol in the brain has a sedating effect if continually consume overtime. In the brain of an intense, long-standing abuser, it is repeatedly exposed to the calming effect of alcohol substance and thus the brain regulates its own system to balance the effect of the chemicals. It performs this action by means of making physically invigorating chemical in huge quantities than usual. If an alcoholic suddenly stops consuming alcohol, the brain will react and thus experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Most signs take place when the brain is over stimulated.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms may be different from one person to another. In extreme cases, the most hazardous type of symptoms takes place one hour to twenty four hours after the last drink of alcohol. Conditions may include a fatal symptom called delirium tremens also known as DTs. It has a lot of complications so one must pay attention to these kinds of symptoms. Anyone who experiences this kind of sign may ask for medical assistance to have the proper medications and treatments in terms of withdrawal symptoms.

In mild cases, there is no need to seek for medical advice as the symptoms may improve after several days depending on the alcoholic’s physical capabilities and strength. The individual will overcome the alcohol withdrawal symptoms without the help from doctors and specialists who are specialized in this kind of addiction. Mild alcohol withdrawal symptoms may not need support from support groups and may deal with the withdrawal signs by means of his personal judgments.

It is best advice to seek for professional help when dealing with extreme condition as it requires a much more attention than mild cases. Be sure to secure advice from trusted doctors to be sure of the results.

Friends, Drinking Problems, and Alcoholism Symptoms

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

two females at a bar drinking wineJudy and Cheryl were drinking buddies.  Cheryl was a reflective person who occasionally asked herself where she was going in life.  One evening when they were driving to their favorite nightclub, Cheryl asked Judy if she ever experiences any of the classic alcoholism symptoms.  Does she crave alcohol?  Is her drinking out-of-control?  Does she have to drink more to feel the same “high”?  Does she experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she tries to stop drinking?

Judy’s response kind of shocked Cheryl:  “I don’t see any reasons whatsoever why I should be concerned about alcoholism symptoms.  Sure I drink, but I never drank excessively until the last year or two and I don’t think that this is long enough to develop alcohol problems that can be of any consequence.

Look at my parents.  They have been drinking since they were in high school and they don’t have any serious drinking problems.”

After getting barked at by Judy, Cheryl decided that she had better bite her tongue and perhaps revisit this conversation another time.  She did, however, feel kind of sad that her good intentions were so negatively received.

Alcohol Abuse Can Lead to Alcoholism

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

elderly man lost in thought while drinkingOne of the main facts about alcohol abuse is that abusive and excessive drinking leads to a host of alcohol related problems in an individual’s life.  One of the most severe problems that alcohol abuse can lead to, it can be pointed out, is alcoholism.

Stated more precisely repetitive and excessive drinking, at some point, can and does make the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol dependency.  When this happens, unfortunately, the problem drinker will experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms if he or she suddenly stops drinking.  Indeed, it is the fear of facing one’s alcohol withdrawals that plays a major role in the repetitive and continuous drinking by the alcoholic and for his or her need to drink in order to function.

DWIs, Alcohol Poisoning Symptoms, and Alcohol Dependency

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

young lady suffering from a hangoverWhy is it that some “problem drinkers” never seem to learn from their alcohol-related mistakes?  Take Janet for example.  Janet refused to drink in moderation or quit drinking even after receiving three DWIs and after getting rushed to the hospital twice because she displayed alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Based on this information, one can reasonably wonder if Janet has a “death wish” or if she is in so much emotional turmoil that nothing matters but drinking her way through her problems.

Does Janet possess such poor coping skills that she has to resort to drinking to deal with her suffering and pain?  Does Janet suffer from a neurotic sense of guilt that she just can’t resolve or let go?  In all probability, unfortunately, Janet is simply a “typical” alcohol dependent person who has to drink everyday so that she can avoid the alcohol withdrawal symptoms she will experience if she tries to stop drinking.

Alcoholism Signs and Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

Monday, November 9th, 2009

doctor showing concern about his alcoholic patientMaybe the best illustration of alcoholism signs concerns the alcohol withdrawal symptoms that are experienced when an alcohol dependent person quits drinking.  Clearly there are many other signs pointing to the fact that an individual may be addicted to alcohol.  Experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms, however, is the most obvious alcoholism sign because these symptoms reveal that the individual is truly alcohol dependent.

Stated differently, research demonstrates the fact that it is the fear of undergoing alcohol withdrawal symptoms that makes alcohol addicted individuals drink every day.  Not only this but it is the fear of suffering through alcohol withdrawal symptoms that goes a long way in explaining why an alcoholic exhibits a loss of control concerning his or her drinking behavior.

A Teenager Experiences the Negative Consequences of Alcoholism

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

male teenager in misery from alcoholismTony was a young teenager who had already experienced some of the negative consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism.  Tony’s introduction to alcohol started when he was barely twelve years old.  Indeed, this was the time when he had his first bottle of beer with some of his older friends.  Tony clearly remembered that drinking the entire bottle of beer made him feel “good” and that all of his worries seemed to disappear.

Due to the fact that he had such a “positive” first experience with drinking, he continued to drink beer all through junior high and senior high school.  Now, instead of feeling good from an alcohol “buzz,” however, he drank just to get through each day without suffering through alcohol withdrawal symptoms.  In short, Tony has become a teenager who is alcohol dependent and who is in desperate need of alcohol treatment.

It is truly sad that someone as young as Tony needs to experience the devastating consequences of alcoholism.  Even worse, every day this same theme, namely teenage alcoholism, is played out by thousands of teenagers in our society.

The Transition From Alcohol Abuse to Alcohol Addiction and the “Junkie Mentality”

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

young woman in pain from heavy drinkingPrecisely when does a problem drinker make the transition from alcohol abuser to alcoholic?  Stated another way, when does alcohol abuse become alcoholism?

Though the exact moment is unknown, at some point the chronic alcohol abuser can become addicted to alcohol.  Once this transition has taken place, problem drinkers usually loses all control over their drinking.  What this means is that when alcoholics take their first drink for the day, they typically cannot stop drinking and proceed to drink many times throughout the day and/or the night.

In addition, when alcohol abusers becomes alcoholics, they need to have their “fix” everyday in order to avoid the alcohol withdrawal symptoms that will take place if they abruptly stop drinking.

Finally, and not unlike drug addicts who manifest a “junkie mentality” in that they focus only on the current day, alcoholics typically do not plan too far in advance because their “mission” is to get the alcohol they need for the present moment.

Alcoholism Destroys Everything Positive in a Person

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

middle age man fretting over his alcoholic behaviorLast week I talked to a person named Ben who is a recovering alcoholic. Ben told me that the memory of what it was like going through the alcohol withdrawal symptoms he suffered through when he stopped drinking has many times helped him refrain from drinking once again. On the other hand, Ben frankly admitted that while he doesn’t have a strong craving for alcohol as he once did, he still misses having a drink every so often.

For him, however, the terrible memories of his drinking problems far outweigh the good times. As a result, it is the “bad” memories that help him abstain from drinking. This is something that all recovering alcoholics need to remember when they are lured by the “appeal” of alcohol to drink once again. In a word, alcoholism is a fraud. That is, at first alcoholism promises a world of pleasant feelings and removal from suffering and pain but after the person becomes addicted, it does everything it can to debilitate and destroy the drinker.

A Recovering Alcoholic Realizes He Can Never Drink Again

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

young man in anguish over effects of alcoholismStanley was a recovering alcoholic.  He had gone through alcohol treatment two years ago and has been sober ever since he finished his outpatient alcohol counseling program.  Lately, however, he has been feeling like his life is going nowhere and so he began frequenting a few nightclubs in the big city.  He reasoned that since he was no longer an “active” alcoholic or exhibiting alcoholic behavior, he could now drink responsibly and in moderation.

After three weeks of having a few beers every other day, he understood how easily it would be to get involved in the negative cycle of alcoholism once again.  And by looking at drinking in this manner, the one thing that he kept on thinking about were the dreadful alcohol withdrawal symptoms he suffered just before he went to the alcohol treatment clinic two years ago.  In fact, the thought of facing such intense agony and pain made him totally quit drinking–again.  As soon as he quit drinking this time he clearly understood that he was one of the unfortunate individuals who would never again be able to drink, even if he were to drink in moderation.

The Transition From Alcohol Abuse to Alcoholism

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

college couple at a party drinking wineSeveral key issues led to Danny’s drinking.  At first, having a few beers every night helped him cope with his physical pain, helped him relax, and helped him fall asleep more easily.  Due to the fact that having a few drinks was “working” for him, why change?

One of the problems with abusive drinking is that even if an individual does not change his or her drinking behavior, significant changes, nonetheless, are taking place within his or her body and within his or her brain that will eventually change the individual’s life for the worse.

The type of change I am discussing is the transition that takes place when an individual moves from alcohol abuse to alcoholism.  And once this transition takes place, quitting drinking abruptly leads to painful and unpleasant alcohol withdrawal symptoms that never would have taken place if the individual was not addicted to alcohol. The solution: get alcohol treatment before you become alcohol dependent.

What Makes A Person an Alcoholic?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Businessman Breaking Pencil as a Sign of AlcoholismHow do people know if they are alcohol dependent?  Is it when they start to cause problems in their families due to their drinking or is it when they have to have a drink every day?  Are people addicted to alcohol when they find themselves drinking when they are alone or is it when they suffer alcohol withdrawal symptoms after they quit drinking?

My guess is that people are alcohol dependent when they experience all of the above situations.  And if someone concludes that he or she is an alcoholic, then he or she needs to realize the importance of getting alcoholism treatment so that he or she can start on the road to recovery.

What is the Main Difference Between Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Young Man Not Wanting to Hear About His Alcoholic BehaviorDo individuals who are alcohol abusers but who are not addicted to alcohol suffer from alcohol withdrawal symptoms?  This is not only a great question but it points to perhaps the main difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.  Most of us have heard that alcohol dependent individuals need to drink every day.  Question:  Why is this?

The answer to this question is the following.  The alcohol addicted person, unlike the individual who is an alcohol abuser but who is not alcohol dependent, drinks every day primarily because if he or she did stopped drinking he or she would begin experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms.  Alcohol withdrawals are commonly quite discomforting and painful and approximately 5% of the time they can lead to a fatality if the alcoholic tries to suffer through these withdrawals at home without professional alcohol treatment.

Do Not Treat Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms at Home

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Woman Upset Over Husband Going Through Alcohol WithdrawalsSome people want to know the best way to deal with alcohol withdrawal symptoms at home.  The best answer to this inquiry is this: due to the fact that alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be fatal in extreme instances, everyone who is experiencing or who expects to experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms should get treatment from his or her healthcare practitioner.

Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms Revisited

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Young Male Alcoholic at a Bar DrinkingAlcohol withdrawal symptoms commonly appear within 12 hours of the last drink, and usually peak within 48 to 72 hours after the person has stopped drinking.  While alcohol withdrawal symptoms can continue for as long as a week or longer, some symptoms such as fatigue, rapid mood changes, and sleep disturbances can last for many weeks or for months.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms should be seen as a serious medical situation that requires professional treatment due to the fact that in some instances they can become life-threatening.

The Necessity of Alcohol Treatment for Alcohol Abusers

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Doctor Checking on Male Detox PatientI just talked to my cousin David who is a jazz pianist.  He was telling me about an excellent horn player who was an alcoholic and who started paying the other band members with checks that bounced.  What a surprise.  This is exactly why people who abuse alcohol and who are not yet alcohol dependent need to get alcohol treatment.

When a person becomes an alcoholic, the main mission this person has is to somehow, someway, avoid the alcohol withdrawal symptoms that will surely take place if he or she stops drinking. And if this means writing bogus checks to the people in your band so that you can pay for your drinking habit, then this is exactly what will take place.  The point: if you drink heavily and are not yet an alcoholic, please get the alcohol treatment you need before you become alcohol dependent.

Please call the following toll-free number if you have questions about alcohol abuse, alcoholism, or an alcohol problem or if you want some information about top-of-the-line alcohol treatment.  (888) 565-2282

Alcoholism and the Need For Professional Treatment

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Alcoholism is a very hard disease from which to recover and it almost always requires treatment from professionals trained in alcohol dependency.  While some alcohol addicted individuals attempt to quit drinking on their own, try to go through the detox process at home, and try to get through the alcohol withdrawal symptoms at home, most of these alcoholics will be unsuccessful.  Serious diseases call for serious treatment and the best treatment for alcohol dependency is provided by professionals who are experts in the field of alcoholism.

The Second Stage of Alcoholism and Alcohol Withdrawals

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

According to the chemical dependency and alcoholism research findings, one of the defining characteristics of the second stage of alcoholism is that as tolerance increases, the person drinks excessively because of dependence on alcohol, rather than because of psychological anxiety or frustration relief.

This means that if the person tries to quit drinking during the second stage of alcoholism, he or she will experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms.   Stated another way, in the second stage of alcoholism, the person’s “mission” is not to recapture the “high” he or she once experienced, but rather to avoid the alcohol withdrawals that will certainly emerge if he or she stops drinking.
