A focus on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Treatment Facilities

Friday, August 14th, 2009

When individuals who engage in hazardous and irresponsible drinking eventually decide to get rehab, many of them are unaware that there are normally alcohol abuse and alcoholism facilities in their local community that provide quality treatment.  In fact, more than a few alcohol abuse clinics provide a full assortment of treatment options including education, training, and counseling, doctor prescribed and monitored medications for the alcohol withdrawal process, and alcohol detox. While most of the alcohol abuse and alcoholism facilities specialize in out-patient rehab programs, some of them also include in-patient, residential programs as well.

Reasons Why Problem Drinkers Fail to Get Alcohol Rehab

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Alcohol abuse and alcoholism research highlights the fact that while more than 18 million U.S. alcohol abusers and alcoholics currently need alcohol rehab, only approximately twenty-five percent of these people will receive alcohol treatment.

The following represents some of the reasons why alcoholics and alcohol abusers fail to get the rehabilitation they require:  a lack of local treatment facilities, a lack of space at the rehab facility, a lack of desire on the part of many problem drinkers to get the treatment they need, a lack of financial drinking problems.

Overcoming Alcohol Addiction: A Game Plan

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The first step in overcoming alcohol addiction is understanding that you can take control of what you do. You obviously cannot control all the things that happen in your life or most of the things that other people do, but you do have control over your own behavior and actions and how you react to things.  In short, you need to use that control.

The key to overcoming your alcoholism is making a firm decision to stop drinking.  You will more likely than not need some help in accomplishing this goal so talk to your doctor or to a substance abuse counselor so you can develop a game plan for quitting your drinking.  Another reason for contacting an alcohol abuse or alcoholism professional is this:  when you stop drinking you will probably experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms.  Since alcohol withdrawals can in some instance be life threatening, all alcoholics who want to stop drinking need to do stop drinking under the supervision of a healthcare professional or a medical doctor.  Once you stop drinking, you will almost always need professional alcohol rehab or alcohol treatment so that you can learn how to live your life in an alcohol-free manner.

Alcohol Rehab is for Alcoholics and Well as For Alcohol Abusers

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Here’s some relevant information about alcohol rehab.  It is important to note that alcohol rehab is not only for alcoholics.  Stated another way, alcohol rehab is needed by people who are alcoholics as well as by people who are alcohol abusers.

The key difference between rehab for alcohol abusers and rehab for alcoholics is the following:  people who are not alcohol dependent but who drink in an abusive manner do not require treatment for alcohol withdrawal symptoms because with alcohol abuse without dependency, alcohol withdrawals are almost always a non-issue.  Knowing this, it would appear to be extremely important for alcohol abusers to get alcohol rehab “before” they reach the point when they are alcohol dependent.
