Alcohol Treatment Centers

alcoholism

Alcohol Treatment Centers. Many people who drink abusively and who are alcohol dependent get the treatment they need at one of the local alcohol treatment centers.

I’ve always only heard of AA for alcoholism, but recently heard about the hollostic treatment, what is this?

I’m not sure if I spelled hollostic right, but have you heard of this? Are there other methods to deal with alcoholism besides these two? Thanks for your help!

The reason you only hear about AA is that 95% of the treatment centers in the US are 12-step based–despite the fact that studies have shown that AA’s success rate is about the same as it is for people who simply quit on their own (5%–I don’t know where that other person got the idea that AA has a 40-50% success rate).

There are a number of other treatment options and recovery support groups out there, everything from the “long talk with your doctor” method to online support groups such as Smart Recovery. Such groups are not holistic as much as they are secular (AA’s basic premise is that God, or a higher power, gets you sober).

Avoid Narcanon at all costs. Narcanon is very thinly veiled Scientology.

alcoholics

Alcoholic. When a person becomes alcohol dependent, he or she is known as an alcoholic. Alcoholics usually need professional alcohol treatment for alcohol recovery.

How do alcoholics not get hangovers?

I was just reading a question in another forum. This woman said she drank every single day to the point of passing out drunk. Now, personally, if I get sloshed I will definitely be feeling it the next day. The last thing I would want to do is drink again. I have watched enough “Intervention” to know that hard-core alcoholics never seem to get a hangover. I’m just a little confused as to why.

This is a great question with a lot of potential answers! The obvious answer is, some people like to exagerate their personal situation, and “every single day” may mean Friday,Saturday, and Sunday, while “to the point of passing out drunk” may mean she has low tolerance.

Tolerance! A good topic, and basically means how much you can drink before getting drunk. Our bodies are all different, but a single defining fact is we all are a victim of our own body weights when it comes to metabolizing alcohol. I am a heavier male, and it takes quite a bit more for me to get drunk than a person half my size. because of this, The added quantity of alcohol still affects my liver and kidneys, and makes me sick as it goes through. just as sick as a person half my weight that would drink as much. It all has to come out in the end.

Different alcohols also affect the body differently. Once again we are all different, and some people can tolerate different beverages better than others. One person may respond well to beer but poorly to distilled beverages, while another may be able to drink a fifth of bacardi 151 in a night and wake up peachy keen. Part may be heredity, and part may also be the act(art) of building up one’s tolerance through regimented drinking.

Hair of the Dog! No, its not a nazareth song (Heir of the dog in intended lyrical meaning despite the spelling). This just means there is an old techinique a LOT swear by that is called “hair of the dog that bit you”. meanign, you drink one of whatever you were drinking last night, but in the morning after. This basically means you drinking, roll back asleep, and when you wake AGAIN you feel better. this does not, of course, negate the crappy feeling you experience during your first waking. So I never did this, and I don’t propose you do it. Coffee has more chance of helping than this, unless there is some secret conditioning technique that makes this a clinically proven technique. Is it clinically proven? Nope!

Here’s a snip from cnn.com

“The only proven cure is to avoid “the hair of the dog” that bit you.” Article in sources.

There are also elements of our diet that reduce/eliminate hangover effects. One person may eat something greasy before drinking large quantities to delay/eliminate the onset of inebriation. I’ve heard of one guy eating an entire stick of butter prior to drinking. I personally found tylenol taken halfway into drinking will give me a head start on healing, as I sleep it off. Another possible variable involved in the answer to this question could be pace. Maybe its on how fast you drink. Since it takes time to feel the effects of alcohol, perhaps people who pace it out correctly without rushing have a beter handle on the condition. I remember a pre-christmas gift to myself about 8 years ago was a case of chimey grand reserve. That cost me about 80 dollars, but was an excelent case of abbey beer with elevated alool content. They were in double sized bottles (I think 22-26 oz, somewhere in between). The first bottle went down well, and I waited a bit. the second bottle went down, and I felt the same, buzzy, happy. the third bottle went down, and I looked at the remaining 9 and wondered how many it would take to drown my sorrows. and as I popped the fourth, it hit me. like a freight train, all at once. needless to say, I was extremely sick the next day and a good portion of the next.

So…How fast you drink, What you drink, How long you’ve been drinking, how much you drink regularly, what you take during your drinking sessions, and maybe even the softness/hardness of your bed/place you crashed to sleep it off.

That’s just a quickie diatribe off the top of my mind on the subject, delivered from the mouth of a hardcore drinker who has had his fair share of “jump out of bed, ready to jog a mile” mornings, along with a few sessions of worshiping the porcelin goddess. (although I have to admit it has been at least four years and too many bottles to count since the last time I was actually “sick” from drinking.

Alcohol Rehab Programs

alcohol rehab programs

Alcohol Rehab Programs. People who drink in an abusive manner and who are alcohol dependent often need to go to one of their alcohol rehab programs for help.

Alcoholism is very serious disease manifested through continued drinking and craving for alcohol. It can cause numerous alcohol-related problems, such as breaking the law or losing your job, and even death. The symptoms of alcoholism include increased tolerance to alcohol, physical dependence, impaired control and craving for alcohol. Increased tolerance refers to needing more and more alcohol to get high. Physical dependence refers to the symptoms that a person has once he or she has stopped drinking after a period of drinking alcohol heavily; these symptoms include anxiety, sweating, nausea, shakiness, etc. Once a person has begun drinking regularly, we can witness what is referred to as impaired control, that is, the inability to put an end to it. The craving for alcohol refers to feeling a strong compulsion to drink.

The kind of alcohol that a person drinks, what amount of alcohol he or she consumes, or how long he or she has been drinking are almost irrelevant to defining alcoholism and identifying alcoholics. On the other hand, if a person has an uncontrollable need to drink, this is a very good indication that the person in question may be an alcoholic, especially if the action occurs regularly.

Many issues arise when dealing with alcoholism. Admitting that you are an alcoholic and wanting to get help are two very important steps forward. Joining an alcohol rehab program is nothing to be ashamed of, because it is a well-known fact that most alcoholics cannot recover from this disease without outside professional assistance.

The denial that most people manifest towards their alcohol problems makes them enter an alcohol rehab program unwillingly. Admission to alcohol rehab may be prompted by many factors, such as health problems, family issues or legal difficulties; however, in the absence of such factors, an intervention may be required in order to get someone into an alcohol rehab program. An intervention refers to the process coordinated by a specialist, through which a person with a severe alcohol problem is determined to accept the fact that he or she is in serious need of alcohol rehab.

Recovery from alcoholism generates a series of alcohol withdrawal symptoms, which most alcohol addicts cannot handle, unless they benefit from professional assistance. Moreover, treating alcohol addiction can be a very complex process, depending on a series of factors specific to each individual. For these reasons, the persons who have an alcohol addiction problem are strongly recommended to enter an inpatient alcohol rehab program.

The benefits of joining an alcohol rehab program are numerous. The most notable one is, of course, the effective treatment of an individual’s alcohol addiction. Each individual’s particular needs and problems represent a critical factor in making a choice of the most appropriate alcohol rehab program, a choice that only a specialist at a rehab center can make. Some people may even require a certain combination of alcohol rehab techniques in order to ensure effective treatment.

An alcohol rehab center can provide patients with alcohol problems with many services, according to the seriousness of their condition. A comprehensive alcohol rehab program includes recreation therapy, individual, group and family therapy, art therapy, and so forth. Furthermore, patients with coexisting disorders can receive integrated treatment that will effectively cure both diseases. The strategies used to engage patients in alcohol rehab and determine them to stay in the treatment program are also important services provided by rehab centers, as many people decide to leave the treatment prematurely, which leads to reoccurrence of their problems.

The duration of a patient’s stay in an alcohol rehab center depends on his or her particular problems; however, the typical time frame is that of up to six weeks. This may seem like a long time to many people, which is why the rehab center you choose should be able to offer comfortable treatment and relaxing conditions for their residents.

Alcohol Rehabilitation

alcoholism

Alcohol Rehabilitation. People who abuse alcohol or who are alcohol dependent usually have alcohol related problems and need alcohol rehabilitation.

If you are looking for an alcohol rehabilitation program for someone in your family, you need to first understand how this program works. If you try to look for an option without the right kind of knowledge about it, you will be meeting with a wall several times. Hence, it is important to gather information on it first. You can begin by visiting some federal websites where the treatment programs are explained in detail. The best part of learning about the programs on these websites is that these programs are approved and so they come with the various benefits that qualified programs enjoy. Some websites where you can learn about these qualified programs are the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Clearinghouse.

Then you must visit your state health website. It will definitely have something akin to a Substance Abuse section where you will find details on how and where the alcohol rehabilitation program is conducted in your state. You can find a direct link to this section of your state health website from the Facility Locator on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website. Visit there and find out what treatment centers are present in your state and what kinds of programs they have. Again, learning this is important because you get to know your state-approved programs for alcohol rehab. Among other things, these programs will show you programs that are low in cost (the state funding for most of these programs ensures that) and you will find programs that are covered by your insurance company.

Now when you have learnt about the various methods existing for alcohol rehabilitation, you are in a position to begin looking for a good program. You can begin by locating a program close to your home, or rather in the town that you are. Here you have three main resources that you can use:-
1. Your telephone directory has a Substance Abuse section where you can find out suitable options.
2. The Internet is a great place to find out centers that are close to your home.
3. You can seek an appointment with a substance abuse counselor and then ask them.

Out of these methods, the last two are the best ones because you can get a lot of other information about the program too, such as the way in which it is conducted. A substance abuse counselor will also assess the condition of the patient and then let you know what you program you must take in order to befit their condition in a better manner.

The Internet is also an advisable place to look for because you can find out about many other things about the program at your own leisure. You can read the whole website in detail to find out about the manner in which they will be conducting their program. This is important if you want to find out whether the program will be suitable for them or not. You can also read about the subtle points that a counselor might not discuss with you.

Also, you can check up on how worthy the program really is. You can see the kinds of licensing the program carries, which is usually displayed on the website of the program. You can even check whether the program has special licenses to carry out some of the vital parts of the treatment such as the detox program. You can also find out if the program run by the rehabilitation center you are considering is accredited with a state or a national institute or not, and if the program has its affiliates. Having affiliates ensures that the program is well-supported for its purposes.

When most people look for an alcohol rehabilitation program, the first thing that they consider is the distance from the home of the patient. Now, while this is an important thing, it is not all that necessary either. Since most programs for alcohol rehabilitation are inpatient, it does not matter whether the program is near or far from the home. What is important is that the program should be reputed and the policy of the program must be acceptable to the patient. Even if the program is far from the home, it can be considered if it is really suitable to the patient. When the inpatient part of the program is completed and the aftercare begins, the patient can be shifted over to a local center for the further course of the treatment.

alcoholism help

Alcoholism Help. People who are alcohol dependent need professional alcoholism help so that they can get sober and start the alcohol recovery process.

According to a study published in Archives of General Psychiatry in October, 2009, a Mediterranean diet high in fish, fruits, veggies, whole grains, cereals, nuts, legumes, monosaturated fats, and olive oil can prevent the development of depression.

The Mediterranean diet includes moderate alcohol and dairy consumption, with a low intake of meat and saturated fats. The results of the study are consistent with previous findings reported in the psychiatric literature to date.Mental disorders, including depression, occur less frequently in Mediterranean countries than they do in Northern European countries.

The study’s lead author, Almudena Sánchez-Villegas, B.Pharm., Ph.D., of University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Clinic of the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain, surveyed more than 10,000 healthy Spaniards about their eating habits between 1999 and 2005.

Participants were then followed for a median of 4.4 years. Those who adhered most closely to the Mediterranean diet on a number of measures showed a reduction in the risk of depression by more than 30%, when compared to those who followed the diet less carefully.

Of 480 new cases of depression that developed during the time subjects were followed, participants who did not follow the Mediterranean diet as closely as those who did were most likely to suffer from depressive symptoms.

Certain components of the Mediterranean diet may be more important in preventing depression than others. Scientists speculate that an especially high intake of olive oil, fruits, and veggies may increase the effect even more.

No one, including the authors of the study, is really sure about how or why the Mediterranean diet helps to prevent depression. It’s been speculated that the abundant intake of monosaturated fats like those in olive oil may play a role by lowering the risk of developing symptoms of depression.

One possible reason for the positive effect of the Mediterranean diet in preventing depression might be that the components of the diet improve the endothelium functioning in blood vessels which, in turn, increases the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a beneficial nutrient in brain cells that encourages healthy function and cellular growth. BDNF dysfunction has been suspected of playing a role in the development of depression.

Another possibility is that the monosaturated fat in olive oil helps to bind the neurotransmitter serotonin to brain receptor sites. Low levels of serotonin have long been associated with depression. Prozac is used to raise serotonin levels in the brain.

Researchers also theorize that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish may play a key role in improving function within the central nervous system. It may also be that the synergistic combination of the diet’s components may be more important in preventing depression than any single element alone.

Martinez-Gonzalez speculates that all aspects of the diet may contribute to overall mental health by improving brain functioning and helping those who eat it to cope more effectively with stress and with the challenges of daily life.

However effective the Mediterranean diet may be in preventing depression, the study’s authors are not suggesting that it be used to treat existing depression. However, one could certainly use it to supplement other forms of treatment.

The majority of alcohol rehabilitation programs in use today have a low success rate, as a result many people have turned to medications in order to limit or stop their drinking problem. Two types of medications are currently used in the treatment of alcoholics, Aversive Medications and Anticraving Medications.

Aversive Medications stop a person from drinking and were one of the first types of medications used in the treatment of people with an alcohol problem. Disulfiram was being used as early as the 1940’s. This early aversive medication caused nausea and even vomiting and other reactions when the person taking it also ingested alcohol. Frequently this is how these types of medications work. Unfortunately many studies have shown that unless properly supervised many of the people on aversive medications will continue to drink despite the physical symptoms that it produces. Indeed prolonged drinking while taking the medication can hinder its effectiveness.

Anticraving Medications are taken to reduce an individuals desire to drink. It is many pharmacologists belief that the desire to drink is caused by brain chemicals, and that these chemicals can be blocked with the right drugs. The two most common medications in use today are Naltrexone and Acamprosate.

Naltrexone is one of those medications that made headlines when it was one of the first to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of alcoholism. Naltrexone works by blocking the actions of certain brain chemicals called endogenous opioids. The endogenous opioids work with alcohol in a persons system to create feelings of euphoria and reducing anxiety. By blocking this effect Naltrexone is believed to lessen or completely eliminate the positive side effects from consuming alcohol. The theory is that without the positive effects a person will no longer sustain the desire to drink.

Acamprosate also works to eliminate the desire to drink by eliminating the the cravings for drinking alcohol. The major difference between Naltrexone and Acamprosate is that Acamprosate is not yet available in the United States. While it has been widely studied in Europe the exact chemical reason that it works is still unknown. It is believed that it interferes with receptors in the brain which process glutamate, which in effect alters the way ones body reacts to alcohol intake. Several of the European studies show a lot of promise with Acamprosate in that some of the patients had an almost double success rate for staying sober.

The problem with relying on just one or two medications for the treatment of alcoholism is that there are often other physical and mental health issues from the long term consumption of alcohol. Frequently long term alcoholics suffer from other psychiatric issues such as depression and anxiety. These other factors have to be taken into account when considering the overall treatment of the individual patient. In many cases it will be unclear as to wether the psychiatric problems started the drinking problem or vice versa. Alcoholism is a complex problem that requires everything in a caregivers arsenal to help the patient back on the road to sobriety.

alcoholism treatment
Alcoholism counciling treatment centers in Greeley CO. or Denver Area. Intervention Program?

Alcoholism treatment centers don’t work and most of them will admit they are dismal failures. An alcoholic has to have an honest desire to stop drinking and then get involved with A.A. But if they don’t really want to stop it will be apparent immediately if they immediately begin to procrastinate in doing the 12 steps. Typical alcoholic behavior. If a person is in A.A. and wants to put off doing the 12 steps for a later time, manana, you might as well pour them a drink because they will eventually anyway. Skip the treatment centers and go to A.A. Period. Because that is all they are going to ram down your throat after taking thousands of dollars from you. Either you have an honest desire to stop drinking or you don’t and treatment can’t give that to you.

Christian Rehab

Problems of the flesh have worldly causes but spiritual solutions. Although we get ourselves into trouble with our drinking or drug taking behaviors, we too often cannot get ourselves out of these difficulties. Only through an understanding and admission of our spiritual conceit, and by turning our will and our hearts to the Lord for guidance, can we relearn what has always been needed for a good, honest and righteous life.

Jesus forgives us

Through thinking we are above the laws of God we spend too much time away from our families, and in places and with people where Jesus Christ, who walks with us always, should never be forced to endure. Yet even after we have subjected our Savior to our misdeeds our willfulness and our abandonment of His Message, He will always take us back in, show us the way forward, and give us the strength of a better life of sobriety; all we have to do is ask.

Although addiction comes from a worldly conceit, we can only better our abuses through turning our eyes upwards and seeking the guidance of Jesus Christ, and we do this best through prayer, through a study of the scriptures and through an honest, meditative and soul searching admission of our faults.

We cannot do it without His help, this much we have proven all too well, and we must open our hearts to his message and seek His will to direct our lives away from harmful drinking or drug taking, and back towards the bosom of the church, to family love and to a life of service for God, and by extension for self.

Ask for His guidance

You need no other person, no place, and even no Church to hear God’s message and feel his love, but because we value the fellowship of other Christians, appreciate the insights they can bring to our understanding of the Lord and the path we must walk for Him; we benefit greatly through a shared process of recovery within the fellowship of a Christian recovery organization.

Working the Christian 12 steps in group meetings or in a residential Christian rehab, we pray as individuals but also collectively, and feel God’s power as a group, asking His help in recovery from addiction and abuse. We study the bible together, learning the messages of the scripture as they pertain to the problems of the flesh, and we understand that Jesus Christ understands our weaknesses, forgives us for them, and has already given us a powerful book of recovery advice in the bible.

Because we are weak and we are flawed; we must admit to our shortcomings and plead with our God to remove these shortcomings so we can better serve Him in His purpose for us. But because we are imperfect, it can be very difficult to know how we can best live our lives for God. Working together with a Christian therapist, we dissect those feelings that lead us away from the teachings of the Lord, and talk about better ways to live our lives as God wishes. Although we pray for strength we also suffer temptation, and so we also discuss together how best to walk away from harmful behaviors, and into righteous acts.

Christians need a spiritual solution to problems of the flesh, and although we create the problems in our lives, only God can show us how to fix them. Listen to His word; He has the answers for your pain. If you need help with addiction, find a place offering the Christian 12 steps to recovery, and open your heart and mind to God’s will; and start getting better.

If a Christian donates organs, and the rapture happens, do the organs get raptured to heaven as well?

Many people donate organs to either family or complete strangers because they believe that it is a kind and Christ-like thing to do.

Suppose a Christian dies and they give all of their organs up to be donated. Her kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, etc. are immediately transplanted into ill patients. Several months later the rapture occurs. The individual who received the donated liver has had a great recovery but is not a Christian. When resurrecting dead, did God remove the liver from the organ recipient?

If you believe in the rapture and you donate organs, isn’t this tantamount to premeditated murder?

When you give something away it ceases to be yours.

Birthday gift?

My boyfriend is getting his life back together and is in a really good, well known Christian rehab program and I’m so proud of him and hes doing really good…its a live-in program and hes monitored 24/7, I only see him on Sundays and we are not allowed to talk to each other, or even hug each other. I can only write to him. I was there through his drug/alcohol problem and have loved him through it all, we want to get married sometime soon. He means the world to me, and we miss each other very much. I want to make sure that I get him something really special when he gets out of the program, but his birthdays coming up and i want him to have something while he’s in the program. I was going to get a couples ring, matching rings and then engrave our names on the outside and then a message on the inside. Do you think i should give this to him for when he gets out of the program or for his birthday, which is coming up. Any other meaningful gift ideas for either his birthday or when he gets out?

Here’s an unconventional idea : express your feelings and make a beautiful wish for him and for your future! http://www.themostexpensivewish.com/
It’s new, it’s free, it’s a romantic way to tell something on special occasions…

The Short and Long Term Effects of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

Monday, December 14th, 2009

doctor concerned about the long term effects of alcoholCindy was watching a special on cable TV about the short term and the long term effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism.  As Cindy watched the program she started to think about her drinking behavior.

Could she become a moderate drinker rather than getting drunk a few times every month?  Are her terrible hangovers a symptom of a serious drinking problem?  Did she abuse alcohol on a fairly regular basis?  Will she become alcohol dependent like her uncle?  Is her binge drinking a sign of chronic alcohol abuse?   Does she need to get alcohol treatment for her problem drinking?

While the focal point of Cindy’s attention was on the long term outcomes of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, she also began to think about the short term effects of excessive drinking.

She reasoned that by centering her attention only on the long term consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, she might ignore what is taking place in her “drinking” behavior in the here-and-now.

To her credit, Cindy actually began to think about and do something positive about her current drinking issues so that she would not have to address more significant problems in the future.

A Teen Alcohol Abuser Gets Advice From His Older Brother

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

male teenager depressed about his alcohol abuseLately, Justin had been drinking more than ever.  In fact, he noticed that his attitude and outlook on life had become poor, most of the money he earned from his part-time job at the golf course was used to purchase alcohol, and his schoolwork had significantly deteriorated.

In addition, when Justin thought about things honestly, he saw all of these problems as a direct reflection of his hazardous and abusive drinking.  One evening when Justin was particularly depressed he saw Chuck, his older brother, and asked him the following: “Chuck, is it possible that I am alcohol dependent because of my excessive drinking?

I have noticed a lot of bizarre things going on in my life and I wonder if these are alcoholism symptoms.”  Chuck calmed Justin down and said that the most logical plan of action would be to call their family doctor and schedule an appointment to discuss Justin’s drinking problems.

Chuck told Justin that he might have to get alcohol rehab but that if he honestly wanted to face his problem drinking and change his life in a positive way, he would most likely be able to go through virtually any type alcohol treatment program in a successful manner.

Why Many Problem Drinkers Fail to Get Alcohol Treatment

Monday, December 7th, 2009

doctor going over alcohol test for alcoholicWith the many different opportunities for alcohol abuse and alcoholism treatment that are available today, why is it that so many individuals fail to get alcohol rehab for their drinking problems?

One important reason for this is that many people with drinking issues do not realize or admit that they have a drinking problem. Indeed, why fix what isn’t broke?

People who engage in chronic alcohol abuse or alcoholism are also notorious for establishing a sophisticated denial system. For instance, some long-term heavy drinkers, when asked about their drinking problem, respond with “what alcohol problem? I don’t have an alcohol problem.”

In a similar manner, other chronic alcoholics stick their heads in the sand and refuse to honestly deal with the truth. Whatever the reasons, millions of people in our country are alcohol abusers or alcohol dependent and fail to get the professional alcohol treatment that they require.

A Baseball Player Starts to Worry About His Abusive Drinking

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

bottle of beer with yellow backgroundChad was the center fielder on a professional baseball team.  Not unlike most of his teammates, he was a ballplayer and a family man during the home games but when the team traveled and went out-of-town, his time was spent playing baseball, staying in the hotel, and going to various bars and nightclubs with his fellow teammates.

One night when his team was playing a team on the West coast, Chad asked one his teammates if he ever became worried about the long term effects of alcohol.

As articulated by Chad, “just think for a moment how much we drink while we are on the road and away from our families.  This clearly can’t be good for our baseball skills from a short term perspective and it obviously can’t be very healthy from a long-term vantage point.  Do you think that our abusive drinking could be leading to various drinking problems?  Is there a possibility that we might become alcohol dependent if we continue drinking in a hazardous and excessive manner?”

Grady, the other player, thought that it might be a good idea for both of them to talk to the team trainer for some additional information and insight about alcohol abuse and alcoholism.  Chad agreed, said that they should follow through on this the next day, and then started to prepare for the game.

Abusive Drinking Can Wreck Havoc With Virtually Everything in Your Life

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

young female college student with fun attitude drinking wineHow does something that makes you feel so fantastic become so bad for your health?” asked Sandra in her junior health class in college.  “You get that warm feeling, you begin to feel like everyone is your friend, and you feel like your problems are going away.

Then a few years later, the negative effects of alcohol abuse or alcoholism wreck havoc with just about everything of value in your life.

Isn’t there anything in life that is good for you no matter how many times you drink it, smoke it, eat it, or do it?” continued Sandra.  “To be candid, if I knew that I wouldn’t become alcohol dependent, I would get drunk every night” Sandra claimed.

Chronic Alcohol Dependency Shortens One’s Life Expectancy

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Alcohol dependency and medical research shows that approximately 95% of the alcoholics in the U.S. lose their lives from their addiction.  Not only this, but alcohol dependent individuals on average will die roughly 15 years earlier than people who are not alcohol dependent.

Though these findings will probably not make a great “impression” on most alcoholics, this knowledge is significant and needs to be taught to all students, from the elementary school level through and including college.  Stated another way, statistics and facts like these have to be viewed from a common sense and logical perspective—something that most alcoholics, unlike most students, do not possess.
