I’m going to put myself out there a little on this one because it hits home for me. I’m not so much coming from the perspective of people that work out then go party on the weekends though I’ll touch on that as well. I’m more so coming from the perspective of people who suffer from alcoholism and have a problem with it. With that I could easily tap into substance abuse with this subject but we’ll stick to excessive drinking otherwise this could turn into a book rather than an article.
Sure, there are those who seem to have more control and these are the ones that may work out during the week and do it up on the weekends, or perhaps just on occasion. I won’t go as far as to say that if you do this you’ll negate all of your gym efforts (unless it’s excessive every weekend, which you fool yourself if you don’t think this can quickly turn into a real problem). But it certainly isn’t going to push you towards your ultimate goal. Then again, that all depends on how serious you are. For those of us who suffer from chronic abuse this will indeed hold us back from our full potential.
First of all excessive alcohol will lower your testosterone levels. We know that with men testosterone is a key factor in building muscle and burning fat. Alcohol is also considered empty calories which are stored as fat. You also have to consider not only the calories in alcohol but the substances that are often mixed with it. It’s clear that alcohol is counterproductive in many ways to building a strong and muscular physique. As if this weren’t enough have you ever tried to work out the day after a night of drinking? It’s not going to be pretty and you can forget about giving your best efforts. One night of binge drinking can set you back several days, if not an entire week. There’s also a long list of health problems that can develop from alcohol abuse.
Sadly enough this is something that many struggle with. I’ve been there myself. Whether you’re into bodybuilding or just love the feeling and effects of intense workouts, we can all agree that this is an extreme sport in its own way. With that being realized it’s easy to see that some of us get caught up into other extremes in life. Many of us that workout intense are addicted to working out to some degree, though a healthy addiction. But none the less that personality trait on addiction is there and is often prevalent in our lives.
Those cravings seem to come and go. One thing I’ve learned that helps is acknowledging this as a true problem and seeing it for what it is. This helps you stay on guard at all times. When you feel those moments of vulnerability coming on you’re able to take a step back. It doesn’t mean we won’t ever fall but it may mean that we fall less often, and when we do, we’ll be able to get back up and fight again. We also have to constantly remind ourselves why we do what we do in regards to the gym. It’s more than just strength on the outside or attaining a muscular physique. Sure, that’s part of it. But it’s more so an inner struggle that we’re able to conquer day in and day out. We prove something to ourselves every time we tap into this strength that we pull from deep within and push through another day. When we dwell on the very thing that makes us become a better person every day, we then realize we can conqueror this evil, and so we do yet another day.

Do I still have to continue with drug & alcohol treatment if I get off probation?
While on probation my P.O. enrolled me in drug and alcohol treatment. Now it looks as if I’ll be getting off probation very soon but I have a few months left of my treatment.
I figured I’m ordered to be there as a result of being on probation so if I get off I don’t need to attend anymore. Is it so? I never appeared before a judge about this. My P.O. told me to do it so I did.
Yes, in most instances you probably need to continue with your drug and alcohol treatment even when you get off probation. Why not find out for sure by asking your P.O.?

To attempt to discover why some adolescents begin using drugs and alcohol, what would a social psychologist study?
- The personality profile of adolescents engaged in substance abuse?
- Internal conflicts and struggles?
Which one or both? Thanks.
The first one, most likely. I think the second one is what psychologists who depend on psychoanalysis (Freud) would actually study

Were My Rights Violated? Professional Advice Needed!
This is a legal question. I am under probation for a DUI offense. My probation officer demands that I go to some sort of “treatment” program. She wants me to go off certain medications that probation feels are “addictive”. Anyway, the probation officer spoke with my doctor and identified me as a “substance abuse” offender. She had no written authorization to do this”release” and my doctor informed in an email that she had NO knowledge of this info prior. To my understanding this could be a violation of HIPAA laws and protected health information laws. Please professional or knowledgeable answers only. And yes I have a copy of the mail.
Before I respond to your questions, I find it amazing that you want professional or knowledgeable answers and yet everything you wrote had to be edited so that others could make sense of what you were articulating. Couldn’t you at least take the time to proofread what you had written? You sound like you are in the third grade.
I find it interesting that you are looking so intently at your rights and yet you violated the rights of others by drinking and driving. Wake the hell up and look in the mirror. You are on a “loser” path and need to address your drug and/or alcohol abuse before you become an addict.
No it is not a violation of HIPAA. Your doctor did not disclose any information and when you committed the DUI you gave up some of your rights. You need to learn some better coping skills and how to become more responsible in life.

What advice would you give to someone who deals with VISUAL triggers for substance abuse?
What advice would you give to someone who deals with visual triggers to use alcohol or drugs. For example, one of my clients lives in an area where when he walks down the street he sees people on patio bars and this triggers him. MOVING IS NOT AN OPTION – this is where the treatment facility is located. Traveling a different route is not an option for the most part. What are some effective coping skills he may utilize?
please no more ridiculous responses.
You are never going to get to a stage where he is completely devoid of visual triggers – unless of course he chooses to move to a Muslim country. He should use hypnotherapy to remove the trigger response and replace it with a reinforcement of his sobriety. If you need more information on the treatment of drug and alcohol issues, take a look at http://www.vancouverhypnotherapy.org/hypnosis_for_alcoholism.html
I hope this helps.

Natural Healing For Substance Abuse
Whether you’re talking about drugs, tobacco or alcohol, substance abuse can take control of your life and send it spiraling downward. The misuse of alcohol, cigarettes and legal and illegal drugs is the main cause of premature death and preventable illness in the United States, according to the American Psychiatric Association. Some people particularly those from families with histories of drug and alcohol problems seem to be more susceptible than others to substance abuse. If you suspect that you have a problem, seek professional treatment. Natural remedies in conjunction with professional care used with your doctor’s approval may help you overcome substance abuse.
Aromatherapy
The essential oil everlast (also known as helichrysum or immortelle) encourages cellular regeneration and helps the body repair the damage done by drugs or alcohol. Everlast is a key ingredient in the following blend of essential oils, developed to help those in recovery combat cravings for drugs or alcohol. Mix three parts lemon (to detoxify), two parts geranium (to balance the adrenal system) and one part everlast essential oils. Store the mixture in a bottle small enough to fit in your pocket or purse. “You can inhale directly from this bottle whenever you have a craving”

More Young Moms-to-Be Treated for Meth, Marijuana Abuse
Title: More Young Moms-to-Be Treated for Meth, Marijuana Abuse Category: Health News Created: 6/29/2010 2:10:00 PM Last Editorial Review: 6/30/2010
This is obviously NOT a positive development. Wake up people. We are becoming a nation of wimps who cannot cope with life. Learn better coping skills and better decision making skills. Nothing positive EVER happened due to alcohol or drug abuse or addiction.
That’s all we need is a large population of young mothers hooked on meth and/or marijuana. What the hell are we teaching our students in school that invites them to be such losers and so lost? This is a manifestation of the liberal “anything goes” mentality that is NOT healthy or productive. Adult dependency on your parents, on drugs, on alcohol, or on your government is NOT productive or healthy. Wake the hell up America!

Make no mistake, alcohol and other drug abuse is one of America’s leading health and social problems that affects many areas of life and costs every taxpayer money. However, despite all the added complexities by researchers and drug companies, the cycle of drug abuse and addiction can be broken down into more simple components. Once these are understood and seen how they apply to each and every person caught up in substance abuse, it makes the solutions more workable.
The cycle of drug abuse starts with a person having some sort of unwanted situation, pain or discomfort either mentally or physically. This could be an injury, boredom, some type of loss or any other kind of discomfort. At that point someone offers alcohol or another drug in an effort to temporarily relieve this discomfort. The next time the same or similar feeling is present, the person seeks out that drug again to ease the pain or cope with the upset since it seemed to “work” last time and make them feel not so bad. This cycle continues each time the problem is present, turning to drugs more and more to get along in life.
Given the nature of our bodies and the abuse potential of drugs, tolerance builds and more of the same drug is needed to produce the same feeling while at the same time creating a dependency on the substance.
After the person has been abusing one or more drugs and their tolerance and dependency builds, withdrawal symptoms start to appear when the drug’s effects begin to wear off. These withdrawal symptoms can include anything from aches and pains to nausea and vomiting or fatigue and depression, depending on the drug. These symptoms obviously create even more undesirable sensations so their solution is to take more drugs to feel better.
Now the individual is at a point where he or she feels that it is impossible to get through the day without being on drugs, and the fear of withdrawal and need to get more drugs becomes their primary focus in life, with all other aspects of living now taking a back seat. This is where drug abuse has become addiction – the continuous seeking and taking of drugs despite any negative consequences. It is an inverted form of survival because the person feels he needs the drugs to survive but those substances are the thing that are actually bringing him closer to death.
By understanding this cycle of drug abuse and how it leads to addiction, successful rehab programs can help to not just treat the symptoms of the drug taking, but also find alternative solutions to the problems faced in life that brought on the drug taking in the first place. As you can see by this description – addiction can happen to anyone and genetics have very little to do with it. Addiction is not a disease, it is an acquired condition that can be fixed with the right help!

Do I need to declare my mental illness to the employment agency?
They are asking if I have any conditions such as alcohol abuse, drug abuse, or substance abuse issues they should be aware of. I feel they know too much about me as it is so I said no. If I told them I had schizophrenia, the word sounds scary and not many people know what it is or what to do about it. I am a voluntary job seeker and just want a part time job. I am declared well and ready to work now. I don’t want them knowing my business because they would freak out.
No, you don’t need to. Mental health conditions are confidential information. If you’re a good worker, they won’t need to question you. Having said this, if you have alcohol or drug abuse problems, these will more likely than not manifest themselves at some point in the workplace. So before this happens, why not refrain from ANY and ALL drug and alcohol abuse?
Why not get a drug and alcohol abuse assessment to see if you are an abuser or an addict?

Traumatic Brain Injuries and Substance Abuse
Medical practitioners commonly acknowledge that substance abuse plays a part in many cases of traumatic brain injury. A victim may have engaged in recreational drug use or alcohol abuse before the injury, the brain injury event may have been caused by intoxication, and problems with substance abuse can arise in victims of traumatic brain injury after they are discharged from medical facilities. What role does substance abuse play in traumatic brain injury? What can you do if a loved one suffering from traumatic brain injury is also struggling with drug or alcohol abuse?
Who Is At Risk For Traumatic Brain Injury?
Alcohol abuse plays a major role in traumatic brain injury, with many incidents occurring in relation to automobile crashes or heavy equipment used while under the influence. The medical community recognizes that young males are the most likely to suffer from alcohol-related TBI. These incidents may be isolated, but many fall within a context of broader substance abuse: for example, a longitudinal study at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio has found that nearly 60 percent of their patient sample had prior histories of drug and alcohol abuse.
Someone with a previous record of substance abuse may have a more difficult time being hospitalized than those with no previous record or history. This is due to the fact that many patients are both recovering from their brain injuries and dealing with the frustrating physical and emotional effects of detoxification. The presence of drug or alcohol abuse can also complicate diagnoses, as many of the symptoms of overdose (respiratory depression, lethargy, confusion, apathy, and disorientation) are similar to those of traumatic brain injury. Thus, TBI is sometimes overlooked, leading to complications and ongoing symptoms related to insufficient care.
After Discharge: Substance Abuse A Risk For TBI Patients
The struggles with substance abuse do not necessarily end when a traumatic brain injury patient is released from the hospital and discharged to his or her home and community. In fact, they are sometimes just beginning: Victims of TBIs often turn to drugs or alcohol to cope with the emotional disturbances or changes in personality that might be a result of a brain injury. The brain injury patient may not even be able to disclose his or her own problems with substances due to after effects of the injury such as speech issues or memory loss; similarly, they may already exhibit external symptoms some would associate with intoxication and may feel that it doesn’t matter if they actually indulge in those substances since their physical symptoms already make them seem as if they do.
What Can Families Do About Substance Abuse and Traumatic Brain Injury?
Loved ones and families of the victim can be the biggest help in acquainting themselves and making interventions in the substance abuse after the brain injury. Families who take care of the brain injured patient are often the first to notice that the person they are caring for is developing a substance addiction. Families taking care of these patients do have ways to help the person with a substance abuse problem such as letting the health care providers know, or advise their loved one to find help. A drug-free surrounding that is supportive provided by the families can be another way to help the substance abuser and brain injury victim towards rehabilitation and regaining all functions. However, substance abuse can have an enormous negative impact on family members who suffer emotionally as their loved one slides into dangerous habits. It is essential that families of traumatic brain injury survivors with associated substance abuse issues seek out their own support, either through a professional counselor or a local Al-Anon group, in order to cope with the ravages of substance abuse.
Some families may wish to hire an experienced brain injury attorney to help them address not only medical care for substance abuse treatment, but the myriad of other issues related to traumatic brain injury. TBI is stressful on families and individuals; a clever lawyer who is an expert at brain injuries can maneuver the legal system and find essential services and help and possibly also help to find financial support or compensation for expenses that can come from being out of work or needing medication, as well as emotional turmoil.

Breath tests for alcohol have been used for quite a few years by the police at various sobriety check points. One of the reasons for this is the strong correlation between alcohol abuse, binge drinking, and alcoholism and traffic accidents and fatalities.
can respigen (asthma inhaler) fail alcohol breath tests? They contain Alcohol.?
Respigen contains alcohol so i was wondering when i went through a police alcohol breath test would it have contributed to the high reading? Ive heard Respigen has failed people before without alcohol drinks in their system..
I went through a police stop, i had had 2-3 glasses of wine half any hour before hand but right before i drove i had a few puffs on my inhaler as i get bad asthma, when i was stopped i blew quite a high reading, i have court next week and am unsure on what to do?
The alcohol you drank shortly before you got pulled over are probably what caused the BAC to be so high. It is possible the inhaler could cause it to be even higher.

Alcohol is the only thing that stops my panic and anxiety?
Im seeing 2 psychologists, have been diagnosed with panic, anxiety, and PTSD and have been on zoloft, xanax, and the only thing that stops the panic attacks is alcohol.
I abuse it and now am an alcoholic because no med can make me calm as alcohol.
Yes I am in alcohol rehab also. I’m 100% sure I will never quit it because when I do I live in hell.
ANYONE ELSE?
I also abused alcohol for anxiety (I also have panic episodes). I just celebrated my one year of sobriety a couple weeks ago – but I will never forget the pain of getting to where I am today.
I was in rehab many times and I can totally sympathize with your pain – it is hell without alcohol at first – but the operative words are “at first”. I never thought I could live without it either. Alcoholism is a disease, not a weakness, and I’m glad you are getting the help you need to fight this because it is a killer.
Have you talked to your doctor(s) about changing your medications? If Zoloft isn’t working for you, there are so many other medications out there they may work better for you. Also, there are some new medications out there to treat alcohol cravings: Vivitrol, which is given as an injection is one that some people I know have had some success with. I take Topamax (an anti-epilepsy/anti-migraine medication), which is not FDA approved for alcohol craving suppression yet but works wonders for me.
I used to take Prozac for depression which didn’t help much at all. Topamax has changed my mood – and my life. I no longer panic/worry/stress/get angry. It’s a miracle and an added bonus since I was only taking it for the alcohol cravings. The New England Journal of Medicine published a study on the subject in Oct. 2007 so it’s promising.
One thing that is very crucial, and I am hoping your rehabilitation team has recommended it is Alcoholics Anonymous. I was hesitant at first myself about going to the meetings, kind of blew it off but it has been the best thing I ever did. It’s critical that you have the support of other people who can relate to what you are going through.
With the right recovery plan – rehab, outpatient psychologist, medication, A.A., – you can do this. I never thought I could live without alcohol. My life was completely hopeless and now I am actually back to the way I was before I started drinking. Climbing back out of my drunken state was hell, but I’m glad now that I did.
Don’t give up. You’re not alone — good luck….

Adolescent Alcohol Abuse. Millions of American youth engage in adolescent alcohol abuse. These adolescents need to get prompt alcohol abuse treatment so that they can start the alcohol recovery process.
There are no specific treatment centers alcohol in North Dakota which help people according to their different ages, sex and even ethnicities. Following this trend, there are several treatment centers for young alcohol abusers in North Dakota too. These are specially equipped to deal with the problems adolescents and teenagers have with alcohol treatment. If you are interested in finding a specialized treatment center, you can do an Internet search for it, you can check with your nearest health center to the center of this type, or you can schedule an appointment with a counselor in the treatment of alcohol abuse in North Dakota that will guide you to the appropriate facility based on the patient’s condition.
However, the fact that these treatment centers are especially designed to meet the needs of young patients does not mean they do not face any problems themselves. In fact, these treatment centers have to face many more challenges than treatment centers in general due to the various issues that relate to alcohol addiction in younger patients.
The following is a list of some of the challenges that adolescent treatment centers alcohol abusers in North Dakota have faced and the methods they employ in order to avoid such problems.
1. Strong denial rates
This is often found that the denial in patients Young is that denial in mature patients because of their ignorance of the condition to be in. Most of the young ones with alcohol abuse in North Dakota are doing outside of their lack of knowledge about the defect that are in your main intention would be to find some relief of problem you have them, such as an inherent inferiority complex, an impulse to rebel against society or the negligence of parents, or it may be that only the fascination of habit.
But one thing is certain: there are well aware of the effects of habit they are in, and that is why we are quite unwise about their habit. But this poses a problem because his imprudence means that they will deny treatment and go deeper into it.
Treatment centers form intervention programs to help these young people leave their denials. In most cases, they will train and use the services of family and friends of the patients because it will be better able to extricate them from their addiction conditions.
2. Young age of patients
The fact that these patients early age are also problematic. Because your body is still developing, it is likely that the habit of alcohol are more deeply rooted in its development physical and mental constitution, sometimes unyielding boundaries. When this happens, it becomes even more difficult to remove them from their addiction.
An example it is that patients are unable to provide the same kind of drugs that are provided to older people. But at the same time, because addiction itself has housed itself much more deeply in their bodies, these minor drugs become ineffective. Treatment providers need to strike a balance between the drugs are not strong enough to pose health problems are not mild enough to be ineffective.
3. Possibility of secondary addictions
When young people are in addictions for a long time there is a possibility that someone else will deal with addiction. This happens mostly with people who have taken the addiction to alcohol very early in life. Soon will come upon the urgency of the alcohol and the euphoria it creates. When that happens, you want to connect with some other substance. This is when they succumb to other addictions. This is a big problem with alcohol abuse treatment in North Dakota that targets adolescents and patients adolescents. They become addicted to alcohol very quickly and even develop secondary forms of addictions.
4. Family Counseling
When the patient is young, it becomes very important for the family’s lawyer in the management of the treatment process. The family will be a vital force in its entire program of addiction treatment. Some centers have special training for parents and guardians, who are mainly targeted to help overcome the problem of addiction and understanding the possibilities of a relapse in them.
In summary, there are many problems associated with teenage alcohol abuse treatment in North Dakota. However, each treatment center makes efforts to solve these problems to its optimum capacity.

Alcohol Abuse Symptoms. If you display alcohol abuse symptoms you need to either stop drinking, learn to drink in moderation, or get alcohol treatment.
Can I treat Adrenal Fatigue but still be a caffeine addict?
After a few years of foolish habits (drug abuse, then alcohol addiction–now sober from booze 6 months; drugs stopped 2 years ago) it seems my ongoing health problem is related to Adrenal Fatigue. It is likely that all the drugs (it was REALLY bad for a while) exhausted my adrenal gland, and now I’m left with this god-awful condition.
I am faced with Chronic Fatigue symptoms, brain fog, mental confusion, slight weakness, lack of motivation, etc. Exercise helps but does NOT cure these problems.
I’m too lazy to adjust my diet (an average diet, a decent balance of grains, vegetables, and proteins) if it needs fixing. But I am also VERY, VERY unwilling to break my addiction to caffeine. Without caffeine I am left in a constantly underaroused state due to preexisting factors–severe ADD. Everything is boring. I need my “daily fix” of stimulation or I’m just slow and dreamy, and I can’t focus.
Is there ANY way to treat Adrenal Fatigue without giving up my caffeine addiction?
Zing from HCBL in Florida,it’s a supplement with gingko, gotu cola, bee pollen and ginseng. It’s really good when you are groggy or down.

Plus a regular vitamin like one a day,not a mega dose or stress dose except b-6 is good for nerves up to 50 mgs.
