abusive drinking 5 Alcohol Effects

Alcohol Effects. Even with a few drinks a person usually experiences some alcohol effects and often will suffer adverse alcohol effects with excessive drinking.

Do you get more resistant to the effects of alcohol over time the more alcohol you drink?

I don’t mean in 1 day…i mean like you drink 1 day and get drunk off 5 cans, does your body get resistant to the effects of alcohol and it might take you 6 cans to get you drunk later on in time?

The effects of alcoholic is pretty strong- that’s why there are alcoholics as opposed to waterholics.

You can build up a tolerance overtime and therefore necessitate more alcohol in your system by next week or even next year, depending on how much you consume.

What are the side effects of drinking too much alcohol?

My significant other and I rarely drink. I just never picked it up in HS and college. I can understand having a couple of drinks to be sociable. Alcohol Awareness

alcohol awareness 2 Alcohol Awareness

Alcohol Awareness. With the increase of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in this country and in other industrialized nations in the world, it is clear that people need more alcohol awareness so they can avoid the damaging and unhealthy consequences of excessive and abusive drinking.

Alcoholism is a stage of disease caused due to an excessive intake of alcohol. The Alcoholism physical signs develops in person when the acute form of this disease is changed to it chronic form with time and disproportionate usage of alcohol. The personal tolerance of a person to alcohol is another factor the effects the physical health of that person. The temporary effects of alcoholic drinks sometimes vary from outgoing, irritating behavior to severe illness or even demise.

Mild utilization of alcoholic drinkables for around two pegs may damage reasoning ability in a person and results in poor judgment. This can also lead to lower reticence that changes the normal behavior of the person. For instance, the person becomes more conversational and shows extraordinary sexual desires.

Another serious stage that is caused due to consistent alcohol intake is lack of coordination and reaction especially during vehicle driving. Most of the people who intake a small quantity of alcohol feels that they are all right and are able to drive. However, they do not realize the fact that the toxic beverage suppresses both their mental capabilities and the reflexes. The main cause of vehicle accidents around the world is due to the effect of alcohol on man.

The blood vessels in the human body quickly absorb the alcohol consumed. The absorption rate depends upon the quantity of intake, duration and the quantity as well as the quality of food consumed. If the person has a habit of taking fat and carbohydrate rich food, the rate of absorption of alcohol to the blood stream will decrease to a greater extent. This is not same in every case, especially with champagne that absorbs faster.

The physical symptoms of alcoholism usually start to expose after ten to fifteen minutes after the alcohol consumption. The BAC or the blood and alcohol content reach its max after half an hour of alcohol intake. The BAC remains stable until the person’s liver is capable of alcoholic metabolism.

Major Physical Signs of Alcoholism:

There are some major short-term physical signs of alcoholism in a human body. They are:

* Decreased Inhibitions: When the blood alcohol content in a person arrives at 0.05, the normal behavior starts to vary markedly. A person addicted to alcohol is not aware of the fact that the toxic harmful drug can badly affect his behavior. The physical signs include sexual promiscuity, vehicle driving under the alcohol influence, unlawful drug utilization and sometimes violence.

* Lack of Harmonization: When the BAC reaches 0.10, the person is badly affected with inaudible speech due to poor harmonization. The alcohol intoxication affects the thinking of the user and tends to lack of reasoning and coordination. These can further lead to many falls as well as major accidents.

* Pass Out and Memory Loss: The continuous usage of alcohol affects the normal functioning of the bran. Since the blood stream of a human being absorbs toxic materials quickly and sent this to the brain, the person will be affected with memory loss and pass outs. They are not even aware of their own actions at certain times.

* Nausea or Vomiting: When you consume a huge quantity of alcohol that is considered as a poison, our body tries to resist the toxic material by creating nausea or vomiting in the consumer. In other cases, the person consuming alcohol feels nauseous since the alcohol badly affects the sense of equilibrium of the body.

Alcoholism Statistics

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Alcoholism Statistics. Alcoholism statistics help people better understand the dangerous and unhealthy consequences of excessive and abusive drinking.

Alcoholism is one of the biggest problems in all over the world. Every year, several surveys are conducted to gather the alcoholism statistics. According to the statistical experts, alcoholism is even a worse disease than cancer or aids as it not only spoils the person’s physical health but also spoils his/her life as well. Just by reason of massive drinking, a person has to sacrifice his/her family, career and social life. Sometimes, there are the possibilities that a person adopts some wrong ways to gather money for drinking. These wrong ways could be of crime including robbery and theft etc.

There are several types of alcoholism statistics. It might surprise you but it is true, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, there are five types of alcoholics. To increase your surprise, the biggest group of alcoholics in the world is young adults. Out of these five types of alcoholics, more than 31.5 come into the group of young adults. This is just a beginning. The next type of alcoholic is even more shocking.

The next type is the young antisocial alcoholics. This group contains all those young people who are in between 25 to 29 years of age and all of them have started drinking alcohol in their young ages. More than half of them are having several types of health hazards that make them fail to perform even normal functions. Many of them have people with drinking habits in their families. A major percentage of these people are also suffering from several types of depression and anxiety.

Besides this, the next category of alcoholics is functional alcoholics. More than half of them also smoke and all of them are belonging to middle age groups group. Surprisingly, all of them are having stable career and families. Around 19 percent or total alcoholics are intermediate familial alcoholics and 9 percent are considered as the chronic server alcoholics. After this, the next type of alcoholics is the server alcoholics. These people are those who will search for treatment for their drinking problems.

Now comes the turn of getting aware of number of men and women consumes alcohol. The results are shocking. Only in the US there are 9.8 million men having drinking problems while on the other hand 3.9 million women are exposed to drinking. According to the surveys, 3 out of 5 families have any particular person with drinking problems. 43 percent of total adults in US are open for drinking. The most shocking alcoholism statistic is that around 8 million children who are under the age of 18 years have an alcoholic parent either father or mother.

In US around 100,000 people lost their lives due to alcohol and 1/3rd of these deaths are committed suicides and accidents like car crashes or drowning. This shows that how an alcoholic person is more open for depression and anxiety. This has made alcohol the third largest cause of preventable deaths. Now, if you speak about the car crashes, around half of car accidents happen due to the alcohol or drunk driving.

Withdrawal is the physical and psychological reaction that a person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol experiences when they abruptly discontinue their use. It may be easier to call your self an alcoholic, or say you have alcoholism, but in reality you are a drug addict, however, you are ready to change that, right? You’ve tried before, but can’t? You realize that you can’t do it on your own, and you need help? Drug and alcohol rehab in Utah is what you need. Now that you are ready to start your life over, sober, you need to find a treatment center.

Detoxifying by yourself can be difficult to do. Doing it alone can make a person decide that drinking alcohol is a much better alternative than putting your body and mind through the pain and misery of sobering up. This is why it is hard to stop using drugs and very mentally tasking. Drug detox is a good way to start. There are many long term treatment centers to choose from in Utah.

alcohol problems 2 Drinking Problem

The benefits of relaxing your nerves and letting your hair down, sort of speak have been recognized since human kind started. After two drinks it takes a 120 minutes or so depending on the body type of the person for the body to convert alcohol and get rid of it. If a person drinks more than two drinks in an hour or two the body gets saturated quickly.

When this occurs the alcohol act as a poison and the main damage is a mineral deficiency along with a vitamin deficiency. Alcohol has no nutrients for its’ high calorie content. A lot of cooking in the body is going on but no nutrition metabolizing. This is not good for the tissue. If you help your body it is pretty obvious the human body can tolerate alcohol since we been drinking forever..

The more conscious you are of the need for liquid minerals and vitamins the healthy you can feel and in indulge in your favorite spirits. Alcohol drinking consumes large stores of B1. Lower levels of B1 can cause memory disorders, concentration problems, heart problems especially rapid palpitations of the heart.

B2 levels are depleted with regular drinking of alcohol. These lowered levels of B2 can lead to specifically digestive disorders leading to weak eyesight, joint pins and inflammations, cracks and sores of the mouth, and various skin disorders.

B3 is the most effected by alcohol. Depression can result from lowered B3 nutritional levels.

The remarkable mineral magnesium is lowered by drinking alcohol and this can lead to weak bone development , blood clots and certain mental diseases are related to low magnesium levels.

The remarkable mineral element zinc is a key player with certain enzymes that is used to metabolize alcohol. Losing zinc little by little will lead to poor wound healing, a chronic fatigue feeling, infertility and prostate gland disorders.

Alcohol directly affects the cerebral cortex. This is the center of conscious thinking and as the great thinkers have always taught us to attain to , self realization. The cortex gets effected by alcohol first. You start missing words and can’t remember what you were going to say.

The hypothalamus , the relay station for nerve transmission between the brain stem and the cerebral cortex is alcohols next stop. So, as you would imagine messages get confused.

The Pineal gland is the home of remarkable minerals like magnesium and phosphorous which (Dr. Helen has written other articles take a look at other Remarkable Mineral articles through ezine articles.) Prolonged alcohol use reduces both these minerals which is why it is urgent that one drinks liquid minerals if drinking is a part of the fabric of ones’ life.

The Pineal gland is interesting and has so much to do with the ability of our senses to register the subtle aspects of love and even spiritual understanding and feelings.

Cirrhosis of the liver is the development of fatty tissue degenerating the liver commonly understood to occur as a result of taking in alcohol. Aloe vera juice taken regularly will flush the liver and cleanse and keep it clean and youthful. alcohol also affects the pituitary, reticular activating system and the brain stem. Regular extra care of the body will allow you party with confidence and balance. Feeling good gets to be the most enjoyable addiction of all.

Alcohol Health Problems

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

The problems caused to others by ‘Drinkers’ can you justify it?

We all know that Alcohol is as dangerous to personal health as Smoking or Obesity.
Because of lack of sleep I’M at risk of health problems or having an accident either at work or on the way there in my car. As I’m a care-worker it also puts others at risk!
You could be the noisy drunk coming home from the pub or club who wakes me or the guest at some saturday-night party who keeps me awake till 2am so how can you justify it?
My smoking at home (I’m prepared to take my own risks and know them well) isnt putting anyone else at risk!
I’m not trying to justify my smoking at all and I only smoke at home or at another smokers home!
I dont expect people to go to bed when I do I’m 56 not a silly kid!
Its the lives put at risk by the behaviour that worries me I cant be the only care-worker in this position, and we all know tiredness causes accidents!

Drinking affects the brain so that people become very selfish and as long as “they are having a laugh, whats the problem”???
I rarely go out drinking anymore because I am sick to death of young kids causing trouble and ruining everybodys elses night! I also smoke, but I don’t cause any trouble by doing this – I will gladly go outside and have a cigarette – I won’t cause trouble and get the police involved but it makes me sick that we are being targetted and yet young binge drinkers can get away with it…………

The Illogic of Excessive and Abusive Drinking

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

man who does not want to hear about his abusive drinkingWith all of the medical and alcohol abuse research that has validated the fact that adverse alcohol effects result from excessive and abusive drinking, I wonder why anyone would choose to drink in a hazardous and irresponsible manner.

Stated more precisely, with the wide array of employment problems, legal issues, relationship difficulties, financial issues, and health problems that are linked to alcoholism and chronic alcohol abuse, why would anyone with common sense want to drink in a hazardous and abusive manner?

Indeed, when alcohol related problems are put under the microscope and analyzed more closely, drinking in an irresponsible and excessive manner makes even less sense and becomes even more illogical.

After reviewing the research literature the point is so central that it needs to be restated: with all of the unhealthy and destructive outcomes that are directly or indirectly correlated with repeated, excessive drinking, why would anyone want to involve himself or herself in alcohol abuse or alcoholism?

A Teen Alcohol Abuser Gets Advice From His Older Brother

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

male teenager depressed about his alcohol abuseLately, Justin had been drinking more than ever.  In fact, he noticed that his attitude and outlook on life had become poor, most of the money he earned from his part-time job at the golf course was used to purchase alcohol, and his schoolwork had significantly deteriorated.

In addition, when Justin thought about things honestly, he saw all of these problems as a direct reflection of his hazardous and abusive drinking.  One evening when Justin was particularly depressed he saw Chuck, his older brother, and asked him the following: “Chuck, is it possible that I am alcohol dependent because of my excessive drinking?

I have noticed a lot of bizarre things going on in my life and I wonder if these are alcoholism symptoms.”  Chuck calmed Justin down and said that the most logical plan of action would be to call their family doctor and schedule an appointment to discuss Justin’s drinking problems.

Chuck told Justin that he might have to get alcohol rehab but that if he honestly wanted to face his problem drinking and change his life in a positive way, he would most likely be able to go through virtually any type alcohol treatment program in a successful manner.

A Special TV Program About Alcohol Poisoning

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

woman looking in mirror wondering about her alcohol abusePatti has been an excessive drinker for about fifteen years.  One Wednesday evening while flipping through the TV channels with her remote, she stumbled upon a special program  that discussed alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Due to the fact that Patti was a heavy drinker, she was quite interested in watching the rest of this program.  At one point, Patti was shocked to find out that alcohol poisoning can result in a fatality even if the drinker doesn’t drink excessively on a daily basis.  Stated differently, over time hazardous and excessive drinking can weaken an individuals’ organs and overall system and lead to an alcohol overdose.

Here’s another fact that didn’t make a lot of sense to Patti.  Let us focus on an individual who only drinks once per year.  For the sake of our discussion, let us assume that this person only drinks on his or her birthday but when he or she drinks, he or she gets drunk.

This individual, although he or she only drinks just one time per year, by definition, has involved himself or herself in alcohol abuse.  What is more, if this individual gets extremely drunk on his or her birthday, for instance, the result can be a fatal alcohol overdose.

The Devastating and Destructive Nature of Excessive and Abusive Drinking

Friday, December 11th, 2009

woman thinking about her alcoholic husbandHow many individual’s lives are shortened because of alcohol related health problems?   How many people are the victims of alcohol related violence or crime every year?  How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome?

How many individuals get injured or get killed in alcohol related traffic accidents every year?  How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to alcohol poisoning?  How many people lose their lives every year because of alcohol related deaths?

The point in asking these questions is to emphasize the devastating and the destructive nature of hazardous and excessive drinking.

Teenage Alcohol Abuse and Getting Drunk

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

teenage male depressed over his alcohol abuseKenny is a junior at a small public high school in the Northeast.  Similar to a lot of his friends, he drinks wine and beer on the weekends.  While watching TV one Wednesday night, he stumbled upon a special program about teenage alcohol abuse.

Until he saw this program, Kenny never saw himself as an alcohol abuser.  He didn’t drink everyday and he “only” got drunk once or twice every month.  In Kenny’s mind, getting intoxicated was less about abusive and excessive drinking and more about doing what all of his best friends were doing.  After watching the TV program about teen alcohol abuse, however, he now realizes that every time he gets drunk, he is engaging in a special form of alcohol abuse called binge drinking.

The issue now is what Kenny will do about this information.  Would he continue to drink and get drunk with his friends?  Would he significantly “cut back” on his drinking and drink in moderation, or would he refrain from drinking entirely?

A High School Class Learns About Alcohol Related Deaths

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

hospital signIt sounded like a morbid subject–and it was.  Mrs. Channing decided to call her lecture “alcohol related deaths” and after much vacillation, finally decided to present this important information to her eleventh grade health class.

Morbid or not, Mrs. Channing could tell that she secured the interest of every student in the class.  For instance, during her lecture there wasn’t one interruption and when the “questions and answers” part the class began and it seemed like every pupil in the class had a question to ask.  And when Mrs. Channing discussed some of the specific fatalities caused by irresponsible and abusive drinking such as fatal alcohol poisoning and alcohol related cancer, her students seemed so very attentive.

All things considered, Mrs. Bell was delighted with the response she received and, as a consequence, she told the class that she would work on five more lectures on the same topic.  What is more, Mrs. Channing determined that “alcohol related deaths” and how hazardous and excessive drinking often results in premature fatalities would be one of the topics that she would teach every year.

Knowing When Alcohol Abuse Negatively Affects a Person

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

young woman in pain from abusive drinkingWhen does a person start to notice the negative effects of alcohol abuse?  There are so many variables involved in the act of abusive and excessive drinking that it is essentially impossible to answer this question with any degree of certainty.

For example, how often does the person consume alcohol?  Does the person usually drink on an empty stomach?  How much does the person drink?  When the person drinks, does he or she get intoxicated or does he or she get a slight “buzz.”  How much does the drinker weigh?

Does the person drink every day or a few times per week?  Is the drinker relatively healthy or sickly?  How quickly does the person’s liver metabolize alcohol?   Does the person consume drinks with extremely high alcohol content (such as Everclear)?

It is apparent from these questions, in sum, that numerous variables influence when the adverse effects of alcohol abuse will affect an individual.

Two Construction Workers Discuss Their Drinking Behavior

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

young man in pain about his alcohol abuseBill and Colin worked together on a commercial roofing crew.  One day at lunch, Bill and Colin started to discuss their drinking behavior.  As stated by Bill, “Colin, I realize that we drink a lot more than we should but there are certain individuals who drink most of their lives and still live to be ninety-years-old or older.”

Colin agreed but then asked the following, “I wonder if these individuals drank in moderation or if they, like us, were heavy drinkers?  And if they were excessive and abusive drinkers, how did they avoid the adverse effects of alcohol abuse or alcoholism?

Some individuals are born with stronger constitutions and are healthier than other people.  To verify this, just consider some of the people who smoke two or more packs of cigarettes every day and still make it to ninety-years-old compared to other heavy smokers who never see their fiftieth birthday.  I would think that a similar principle applies to abusive and excessive drinking,” concluded Colin.

A Retired Couple Stops Their Abusive Drinking and Decides to Drink in Moderation

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

honey colored wine symbolizing alcohol abuseJack and Michelle have been married for thirty-eight years.  Now that both of them are retired, they have several friends over for parties and for special events such as the Super Bowl, the Olympics, American Idol, the World Series, and the Masters Golf Tournament.

Michelle and Jack have been social drinkers most of their adult lives.  When they have their special parties and get-togethers, then again, hardly anyone drinks in moderation.  In other words, their special parties are basically invitations for abusive and excessive drinking.

Now that they are in their late sixties, they are beginning to see some of the adverse effects of alcohol in their lives.  For example, they are certain that their irresponsible and abusive drinking has negatively affected their finances as well as their health.

Due to the fact that they have become more health-conscious in the past five or ten years, they agreed with one another that they would quit drinking abusively and excessively and would instead drink in moderation at all times, particularly during their parties and their special events.

Both Michelle and Jack were pleased with this decision because they addressed their drinking problem and came up with a doable and logical solution.

An Elderly Woman Calls Her Doctor About Her Drinking Problems

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

elderly woman reflecting on life of alcohol abuseMrs. Ashton had been an abusive drinker her entire adult life.  Now that she was sixty-three years old, she was starting to experience various alcohol effects on her body.  Frankly, given her hazardous and excessive drinking, it is astonishing that Mrs. Ashton didn’t experience alcohol related health problems much earlier in life.

At any rate, she now has several health issues that are becoming problematic on an every day basis.  When she explained this to her husband, he suggested that she call the family doctor and schedule an appointment to talk to him about her health concerns and her problem drinking.  After Mrs. Ashton followed through with her husband’s recommendation, she felt like she had done the precise thing she needed to do to quiet her apprehension about her drinking problems and her health issues.
