Christian Alcohol Treatment

Christian Alcohol Treatment. Christians who abuse alcohol or are alcohol dependent often get christian alcohol treatment to deal with their alcohol problems and restore their lives.

Alcoholism is a problem which afflicts over 14 million Americans, almost 8% of the population of the United States. The majority of alcohol rehabilitation programs in use today have a low success rate, as a result many people have turned to medications in order to limit or stop their drinking problem. Two types of medications are currently used in the treatment of alcoholics, Aversive Medications and Anticraving Medications.

Aversive Medications stop a person from drinking and were one of the first types of medications used in the treatment of people with an alcohol problem. Disulfiram was being used as early as the 1940’s. This early aversive medication caused nausea and even vomiting and other reactions when the person taking it also ingested alcohol. Frequently this is how these types of medications work. Unfortunately many studies have shown that unless properly supervised many of the people on aversive medications will continue to drink despite the physical symptoms that it produces. Indeed prolonged drinking while taking the medication can hinder its effectiveness.

Anticraving Medications are taken to reduce an individuals desire to drink. It is many pharmacologists belief that the desire to drink is caused by brain chemicals, and that these chemicals can be blocked with the right drugs. The two most common medications in use today are Naltrexone and Acamprosate.

Naltrexone is one of those medications that made headlines when it was one of the first to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of alcoholism. Naltrexone works by blocking the actions of certain brain chemicals called endogenous opioids. The endogenous opioids work with alcohol in a persons system to create feelings of euphoria and reducing anxiety. By blocking this effect Naltrexone is believed to lessen or completely eliminate the positive side effects from consuming alcohol. The theory is that without the positive effects a person will no longer sustain the desire to drink.

Acamprosate also works to eliminate the desire to drink by eliminating the the cravings for drinking alcohol. The major difference between Naltrexone and Acamprosate is that Acamprosate is not yet available in the United States. While it has been widely studied in Europe the exact chemical reason that it works is still unknown. It is believed that it interferes with receptors in the brain which process glutamate, which in effect alters the way ones body reacts to alcohol intake. Several of the European studies show a lot of promise with Acamprosate in that some of the patients had an almost double success rate for staying sober.

The problem with relying on just one or two medications for the treatment of alcoholism is that there are often other physical and mental health issues from the long term consumption of alcohol. Frequently long term alcoholics suffer from other psychiatric issues such as depression and anxiety. These other factors have to be taken into account when considering the overall treatment of the individual patient. In many cases it will be unclear as to wether the psychiatric problems started the drinking problem or vice versa. Alcoholism is a complex problem that requires everything in a caregivers arsenal to help the patient back on the road to sobriety.

alcohol awareness 2 Alcohol Awareness

Alcohol Awareness. With the increase of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in this country and in other industrialized nations in the world, it is clear that people need more alcohol awareness so they can avoid the damaging and unhealthy consequences of excessive and abusive drinking.

Alcoholism is a stage of disease caused due to an excessive intake of alcohol. The Alcoholism physical signs develops in person when the acute form of this disease is changed to it chronic form with time and disproportionate usage of alcohol. The personal tolerance of a person to alcohol is another factor the effects the physical health of that person. The temporary effects of alcoholic drinks sometimes vary from outgoing, irritating behavior to severe illness or even demise.

Mild utilization of alcoholic drinkables for around two pegs may damage reasoning ability in a person and results in poor judgment. This can also lead to lower reticence that changes the normal behavior of the person. For instance, the person becomes more conversational and shows extraordinary sexual desires.

Another serious stage that is caused due to consistent alcohol intake is lack of coordination and reaction especially during vehicle driving. Most of the people who intake a small quantity of alcohol feels that they are all right and are able to drive. However, they do not realize the fact that the toxic beverage suppresses both their mental capabilities and the reflexes. The main cause of vehicle accidents around the world is due to the effect of alcohol on man.

The blood vessels in the human body quickly absorb the alcohol consumed. The absorption rate depends upon the quantity of intake, duration and the quantity as well as the quality of food consumed. If the person has a habit of taking fat and carbohydrate rich food, the rate of absorption of alcohol to the blood stream will decrease to a greater extent. This is not same in every case, especially with champagne that absorbs faster.

The physical symptoms of alcoholism usually start to expose after ten to fifteen minutes after the alcohol consumption. The BAC or the blood and alcohol content reach its max after half an hour of alcohol intake. The BAC remains stable until the person’s liver is capable of alcoholic metabolism.

Major Physical Signs of Alcoholism:

There are some major short-term physical signs of alcoholism in a human body. They are:

* Decreased Inhibitions: When the blood alcohol content in a person arrives at 0.05, the normal behavior starts to vary markedly. A person addicted to alcohol is not aware of the fact that the toxic harmful drug can badly affect his behavior. The physical signs include sexual promiscuity, vehicle driving under the alcohol influence, unlawful drug utilization and sometimes violence.

* Lack of Harmonization: When the BAC reaches 0.10, the person is badly affected with inaudible speech due to poor harmonization. The alcohol intoxication affects the thinking of the user and tends to lack of reasoning and coordination. These can further lead to many falls as well as major accidents.

* Pass Out and Memory Loss: The continuous usage of alcohol affects the normal functioning of the bran. Since the blood stream of a human being absorbs toxic materials quickly and sent this to the brain, the person will be affected with memory loss and pass outs. They are not even aware of their own actions at certain times.

* Nausea or Vomiting: When you consume a huge quantity of alcohol that is considered as a poison, our body tries to resist the toxic material by creating nausea or vomiting in the consumer. In other cases, the person consuming alcohol feels nauseous since the alcohol badly affects the sense of equilibrium of the body.

alcohol rehabilitation 2 Info About Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation
Mental Health Nurse or Psychologist?

I’m taking a-levels in September, and I either want to become a mental health nurse of a therapist, I’d like to work either in a mental health hospital or a drug/alcohol rehabilitation center.

If I became a mental health nurse, would I be really helping people psychologically, or just cleaning up after them?

From my experience as a patient in a psych ward over many years, mental health nurses have a very difficult job. I think you need to be dedicated yet able to remain unemotionally involved with people. By that I don’t mean uncaring – but it could be hard for someone who is particularly sensitive as there are some very disturbing things to deal with (suicide attempts, self harmers, psychotic patients etc). I have had a lot of real help and encouragement from mental health nurses and value them greatly – although the snag is they are involved in a lot of paperwork and admin tasks so often not a lot ot therapeutic time is spent with patients. This would be different in the case of a therapist where you would work in a close relationship with your clients. I hope this helps a little!

alcoholism treatment 4 Alcoholism Treatment
Alcoholism counciling treatment centers in Greeley CO. or Denver Area. Intervention Program?

Alcoholism treatment centers don’t work and most of them will admit they are dismal failures. An alcoholic has to have an honest desire to stop drinking and then get involved with A.A. But if they don’t really want to stop it will be apparent immediately if they immediately begin to procrastinate in doing the 12 steps. Typical alcoholic behavior. If a person is in A.A. and wants to put off doing the 12 steps for a later time, manana, you might as well pour them a drink because they will eventually anyway. Skip the treatment centers and go to A.A. Period. Because that is all they are going to ram down your throat after taking thousands of dollars from you. Either you have an honest desire to stop drinking or you don’t and treatment can’t give that to you.

Christian Rehab

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Problems of the flesh have worldly causes but spiritual solutions. Although we get ourselves into trouble with our drinking or drug taking behaviors, we too often cannot get ourselves out of these difficulties. Only through an understanding and admission of our spiritual conceit, and by turning our will and our hearts to the Lord for guidance, can we relearn what has always been needed for a good, honest and righteous life.

Jesus forgives us

Through thinking we are above the laws of God we spend too much time away from our families, and in places and with people where Jesus Christ, who walks with us always, should never be forced to endure. Yet even after we have subjected our Savior to our misdeeds our willfulness and our abandonment of His Message, He will always take us back in, show us the way forward, and give us the strength of a better life of sobriety; all we have to do is ask.

Although addiction comes from a worldly conceit, we can only better our abuses through turning our eyes upwards and seeking the guidance of Jesus Christ, and we do this best through prayer, through a study of the scriptures and through an honest, meditative and soul searching admission of our faults.

We cannot do it without His help, this much we have proven all too well, and we must open our hearts to his message and seek His will to direct our lives away from harmful drinking or drug taking, and back towards the bosom of the church, to family love and to a life of service for God, and by extension for self.

Ask for His guidance

You need no other person, no place, and even no Church to hear God’s message and feel his love, but because we value the fellowship of other Christians, appreciate the insights they can bring to our understanding of the Lord and the path we must walk for Him; we benefit greatly through a shared process of recovery within the fellowship of a Christian recovery organization.

Working the Christian 12 steps in group meetings or in a residential Christian rehab, we pray as individuals but also collectively, and feel God’s power as a group, asking His help in recovery from addiction and abuse. We study the bible together, learning the messages of the scripture as they pertain to the problems of the flesh, and we understand that Jesus Christ understands our weaknesses, forgives us for them, and has already given us a powerful book of recovery advice in the bible.

Because we are weak and we are flawed; we must admit to our shortcomings and plead with our God to remove these shortcomings so we can better serve Him in His purpose for us. But because we are imperfect, it can be very difficult to know how we can best live our lives for God. Working together with a Christian therapist, we dissect those feelings that lead us away from the teachings of the Lord, and talk about better ways to live our lives as God wishes. Although we pray for strength we also suffer temptation, and so we also discuss together how best to walk away from harmful behaviors, and into righteous acts.

Christians need a spiritual solution to problems of the flesh, and although we create the problems in our lives, only God can show us how to fix them. Listen to His word; He has the answers for your pain. If you need help with addiction, find a place offering the Christian 12 steps to recovery, and open your heart and mind to God’s will; and start getting better.

Annoying insurance company/ rehab program?

Ok I have recently found god and become a strong christian. I came home after tons and tons of drug issues from college. My parents are very supportive and my mom is a strong christian. Two centers have been trying to help us with the insurance companies. I want to go to a christian rehab center and the one that has a very very good ministry outreach program was denied because it was not on their list of recommended centers. My whole life I have had to deal with big corporations I am so sick of them and usually have luck when calling them. How should me and my parents handle this issue with the insurance? I mean it is complete bs that we pay them tons of money and when it comes time to actually do their jobs they are refusing to. Is their someone we can call to help us deal with them or something? I really feel that I am being lead to be at this facility does anyone have any suggestions at all. Please just be kind in responses no bs just logical solutions to this problem.

It depends upon the type of plan you have. If you have the wrong plan you are out of luck.

If you have an HMO plan and the center is not in their network you cannot get them to pay. You can still go but you’ll have to pay.

If you have a PPO or a POS plan you can go and they’ll pay a smaller portion than if the center was in their network. You also may have a separate deductible.

If you have an indemnity plan you can go and they’ll pay.

Birthday gift?

My boyfriend is getting his life back together and is in a really good, well known Christian rehab program and I’m so proud of him and hes doing really good…its a live-in program and hes monitored 24/7, I only see him on Sundays and we are not allowed to talk to each other, or even hug each other. I can only write to him. I was there through his drug/alcohol problem and have loved him through it all, we want to get married sometime soon. He means the world to me, and we miss each other very much. I want to make sure that I get him something really special when he gets out of the program, but his birthdays coming up and i want him to have something while he’s in the program. I was going to get a couples ring, matching rings and then engrave our names on the outside and then a message on the inside. Do you think i should give this to him for when he gets out of the program or for his birthday, which is coming up. Any other meaningful gift ideas for either his birthday or when he gets out?

Here’s an unconventional idea : express your feelings and make a beautiful wish for him and for your future! http://www.themostexpensivewish.com/

Christian Treatment

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Christian alcohol rehab center is one of the best centers for the Christian addiction treatment. It provides a pleasant and peaceful environment for fast recovery. It is the trust-based rehabilitation program that functions over Christian principles. Its program is conducive and helps the alcohol addicted people to re-establish their normal lives.

For better and faster treatment, this rehab center involves family members of the patients in the rehabilitation program. The skillful and experienced persons who are employed here for the treatment of patients are the clergies representing Lutheran, Redeemer Free, Catholic, Southern Baptist denominations, and Methodist. All of them apply an integrated approach to cure the addicted people.

Apart from the medication and various therapies, other methods of treatment are praying, meditation, and scriptures study. They promote patients to pray three times a day. The purpose of asking patients to pray is – make them feel the presence of Jesus in the rehab center, who has been continuously providing divine power and strength to get treated soon. Christian addiction treatment center not only provides mental peace to them but also motivates them to live like a normal person.

The clergy personnel arrange individual meetings with the patients and provide proper counseling. He purposefully encourages the patients to improve their conscious contact with God through regular pray and meditation. Subsequently, the patients realize the presence of God and they themselves pray for the power and courage to come out from the curse of drug addiction.

However, Christian alcohol rehab center also promotes patients to take part in several community services and rehabilitation programs in order to help other alcohol addicted people.

These programs provide mental strength and stability to the patients and their family members. As a result, they feel confident and find themselves capable to fight with their tribulations in a better manner and come out as winners.

Alcohol Problems and Alcohol Advertising

Monday, November 30th, 2009

female teen holding head from binge drinkingThe other day I was thinking about alcohol abuse and alcoholism and I began wondering how much alcohol advertising influences our drinking behavior.

As I began thinking more intensely about this I reflected on the pervasiveness, the acceptability, and the availability of alcohol in our society.  For example, I can look outside my office window and see a convenient store, a restaurant, and two bars, all of which are within 500 feet from where I live.

In a sense, each one of these businesses is an “advertisement” for drinking.  Indeed, once an individual goes inside any one of these businesses, he or she can buy just about as much alcohol as he or she wants.

Now consider the alcohol advertisements that are in magazines, in the movies, on TV, on the radio, and on the gigantic billboards that are scattered throughout our highways.

After viewing drinking from this perspective, it becomes clearer why so many alcohol problems such as alcohol abuse, binge drinking, hangovers, alcohol poisoning, and alcoholism occur so frequently in our society.

Friends, Drinking Problems, and Alcoholism Symptoms

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

two females at a bar drinking wineJudy and Cheryl were drinking buddies.  Cheryl was a reflective person who occasionally asked herself where she was going in life.  One evening when they were driving to their favorite nightclub, Cheryl asked Judy if she ever experiences any of the classic alcoholism symptoms.  Does she crave alcohol?  Is her drinking out-of-control?  Does she have to drink more to feel the same “high”?  Does she experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she tries to stop drinking?

Judy’s response kind of shocked Cheryl:  “I don’t see any reasons whatsoever why I should be concerned about alcoholism symptoms.  Sure I drink, but I never drank excessively until the last year or two and I don’t think that this is long enough to develop alcohol problems that can be of any consequence.

Look at my parents.  They have been drinking since they were in high school and they don’t have any serious drinking problems.”

After getting barked at by Judy, Cheryl decided that she had better bite her tongue and perhaps revisit this conversation another time.  She did, however, feel kind of sad that her good intentions were so negatively received.

Local Residents Receive Alcohol Counseling at a Social Service AgencyResidents Receive Alcohol Counseling at a Social Service Agency

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

treatment team for local social services agencyElaine has worked at the local social services agency for the past thirteen years.  Besides providing residents with information about child support, unemployment compensation, food stamps, and employment, the agency therapists also provide various types of counseling.

While many residents seek counseling in areas such as financial management, time management, crisis management, and anger management, Elaine and the other therapists have learned that they do more alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse counseling than any other type of therapy.

Indeed, it appears that a lot of the residents are not only in need of counseling for their alcohol problems, but many people in the general population also seek alcohol information so they can better cope with a family member or a relative who is an alcoholic or an alcohol abuser.

The Acceptability and Acceptability of Drinking Alcohol in Our Society

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Young Man Holding a Pitcher of BeerDid you ever stop to think about how accessible and acceptable alcohol is in our society?  For starters, think about the places that alcohol is regularly served such as bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.  Then consider the many sporting events where alcohol is openly served and where “nickel beer night” is promoted.  What about the grocery stores, convenient stores, the gas station “quick marts,” and the state stores?

Then there’s the oktoberfests, rib burn offs, carnivals, strawberry festivals, county fairs, tractor pulls, concerts, the circus, state fairs, ox roasts, and clam bakes.  Have you also considered the alcohol that is served at birthday parties, Super Bowl parties, some college graduation parties, pool parties, and during all of the major holiday parties?

With a little bit of thought, the above list could be expanded rather considerably.  The point: alcohol is quite accessible and acceptable and intimately ingrained in our society.  And since drinking alcohol is such an important part of what we do, it only makes sense that multitudes of people will drink to an excess and start to experience the host of alcohol problems that are associated with excessive and abusive drinking.

Avoiding the Problems Related to Abusive and Excessive Drinking

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Young Man Showing Stress From Alcohol AbuseThis morning I talked to a Larry, a guy who works in the construction industry who said that he feels really tired due to the fact that he had 4 drinks at his buddy’s house last night.  I told Larry that if he has breakfast he will probably feel a lot better in a few hours.  Then I mentioned how glad I am that I don’t drink at all.

For me drinking makes me feel so lethargic that I almost always want to go asleep.  And by refraining from drinking, I avoid the countless alcohol problems that are associated with abusive and excessive drinking.

Celebrity Drug and Alcohol Treatment

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I was talking to someone today who was telling me about an exclusive drug and alcohol treatment facility located in the Western part of the U.S. that caters almost entirely to celebrities. This person told me that the “average” celebrity pays around $50,000 per month for treatment, that the facility is almost always full, and that there’s currently a celebrity waiting list for treatment.

This tells me at least three things. First, more than a few celebrities experience drug and alcohol problems. Second, celebrities are willing and able to spend many thousands of dollars on alcohol and drug treatment. And third, drug and alcohol treatment can be a lucrative business.
